COMBATING INSECURITY IN NIGERIA: THE VITAL ROLE OF MAN O’ WAR NIGERIA HIGHLIGHTED AT NATIONAL COMMAND OFFICERS WORKSHOP
At the ongoing workshop for the National Command Officers of Man O’ War Nigeria, held at the Directorate Headquarters C<C Abuja, participants engaged in a critical discourse on strengthening the role of the organization in addressing national security challenges. The workshop, which brought together senior officers, served as a platform for capacity building and strategic planning.
Delivering his lecture, the resource person, Mr. Musa Haleed, emphasized that “security is everyone’s business,” stressing that no nation can achieve meaningful development without peace and stability. He noted that the role of Man O’ War Nigeria in combating insecurity cannot be overemphasized, particularly given its grassroots presence and long-standing tradition of volunteer service.
Mr. Haleed further explained that as a volunteer security and community development organization, Man O’ War Nigeria is uniquely positioned to complement the efforts of formal security agencies. According to him, collaboration between both parties would not only boost intelligence gathering but also strengthen public trust in security measures across local communities.
He commended some units and state commands for their exemplary efforts in this regard, citing the Niger State Command as a model in demonstrating commitment to community safety and grassroots security initiatives. He urged other commands nationwide to emulate such proactive approaches.
Highlighting practical ways Man O’ War can contribute to tackling insecurity, the resource person pointed out the importance of community surveillance, early warning systems, and robust intelligence sharing. He added that continuous engagement with schools, religious institutions, and youth groups remains vital in curbing violence, kidnapping, and other social vices.
