Honourable Godwin Offiono, we need to extend this some more to rural communities in Ogoja/Yala. Wonah Andrew, Mary V Ogri Chi John Ogar Joshua Ogwihi Cynthia Ofana MIL Alliance Youth Committee Dough Onah
A young farmer in Uganda once had a dream to turn his small tomato farm into a thriving agribusiness. He worked hard, planted high-quality seeds, and even used innovative farming techniques. But at the end of every season, he had little to show for it. He couldn’t explain where the money went. His farm was growing, but his finances were not.
Then, he learned the power of financial literacy and business development. He started tracking expenses, planning budgets, and setting prices that ensured profitability. He reinvested wisely, secured funding, and scaled his business. Within two years, he was supplying fresh produce to major markets, hiring workers, and even mentoring other farmers.
This is why financial literacy matters in agriculture. Even the best farms struggle without it. With the right skills, changemakers can turn small ventures into sustainable, profitable agribusinesses that create impact and financial independence.
On March 22, 2025, changemakers will engage in a transformative session on Financial Literacy & Business Development with Dan Lavin, a financial consultant, educator, and agricultural development expert with extensive experience in financial literacy, agribusiness, and sustainable farming initiatives. Dan is a volunteer with USAID Farmer 2 Farmer. He has dedicated his expertise to empowering farmers and entrepreneurs worldwide. He is also a former Peace Corps based in Seattle, Washington, USA. Dan combines his background in accounting, business strategy, and agricultural finance to equip changemakers with the tools to build sustainable and profitable ventures.
For this session, we’re excited to include participants from the Paradigm Initiative LIFE Legacy program, implemented by the Impact Foundation For Youths Development - Ifyd with the office of Honourable Godwin Offiono. Their insights will enhance discussions as we equip young changemakers with essential financial literacy and business development skills.
We argue that Financial Literacy & Business Development are the hidden keys to thriving in Agriculture in Africa. Do you agree?
