On May 28th, we joined the world in celebrating Menstrual Hygiene Day; a day dedicated to breaking the silence, ending stigma, and promoting healthy menstrual hygiene practices among girls and women.

Marywhite Girl-Child Initiative-MGI is a non profit organization dedicated to serving girls and providing opportunities to education, menstrual health awareness and transformational learning.

We believe that menstruation is natural and should never be a reason for shame, discrimination, or limitation. Every girl deserves access to proper menstrual education, sanitary materials, clean water, and a safe environment to manage her period with dignity and confidence.

As we mark this important day, let us continue to educate, support, and empower young girls to embrace their womanhood boldly and proudly.

Together, we can create a society where no girl misses opportunities because of her period.

At the Marywhite Girl-Child Initiative-MGI, we believe that consistent service, passion and advocacy will always create room for greater impact.

Today, we proudly celebrate our Executive Director, Ewona Uwuru, whose passion and commitment to girl-child education and menstrual health advocacy continue to open meaningful doors for change and influence.

Through her outstanding contributions to menstrual hygiene awareness, girl-child education advocacy, she was recommended to coordinate a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Program for the South Korea International Cooperation Association of Nigeria (SKICAN).

She also had the honour of representing the President of the Association, Oboh Joseph Esq., at Cross River Basin Development Authority Secondary School, Nigeria, in commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, 2026.

This recognition reflects her dedication to service, and also establishes the importance of amplifying conversations around menstrual health, dignity, education, and the wellbeing of young girls.

At MGI, we remain committed to building a generation of girls who are informed, empowered, confident, and equipped to thrive without shame or limitation.

We are proud of our Executive Director and inspired by her continued commitment to creating impact through advocacy, awareness, mentorship and service.

Every year, the month of May remains us how important it is to create awareness, and take action towards menstrual health and hygiene; especially for vulnerable girls who still lack access to basic sanitary care.

For many girls, menstruation is not just a natural cycle; it is a period marked by discomfort, shame, absence from school, and the inability to afford sanitary products. And this is why advocacy matters.

At Marywhite Girl-Child Initiative-MGI, we believe that no girl should have to suffer, feel less confident, or miss opportunities because of her period.

This Saturday, as we mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, we will be reaching out to vulnerable girls across communities in Cross River State with sanitary items, menstrual hygiene education, and conversations that build confidence and dignity.

One sanitary item from you can put a smile on the face of a girl who cannot afford a pad.

As an organization, we believe that meaningful impact is built through collaboration, commitment and intentionality.

As part of preparations for our upcoming Medical Outreach on the 28th of May, 2026, our Executive Director, Ewona Uwuru, met with representatives of the Ministry of Health, including the Medical Director and other key staff, to strengthen partnership efforts geared towards improving access to healthcare and support for girls and underserved communities in Cross River State.

This meeting reflects our growing commitment to building sustainable relationships that help us serve girls better, reach farther and create safer, healthier futures for the next generation.

We are grateful for the openness, support and shared vision towards community health and girl-child development.

We remain committed to advocacy, health education, and creating opportunities that allow every girl to feel seen, supported, and empowered.

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY 2026.

As we begin the Month of Menstrual Hygiene Awareness, Marywhite Girl-Child Initiative-MGI is taking bold steps to advance menstrual health education by engaging young girls and communities in open, honest conversations about menstruation.

Through sensitization campaigns, school outreaches, and the distribution of sanitary materials, we will provide sanitary products, knowledge that brings confidence and dignity for vulnerable and at-risk girls.

Why Menstrual Health Education Matters:

Menstruation is natural, yet millions of girls still face stigma, shame, and misinformation. Many miss school, lose confidence, or suffer in silence simply because they lack the right information and support. Menstrual health education breaks these harmful barriers. It empowers girls to understand their bodies, manage their periods safely and live without fear or embarrassment.

Who This Initiative Will Benefit:

Our outreach is focused on adolescent girls, especially those in underserved and vulnerable communities. We are also engaging parents, teachers, and community leaders because we believe that creating a supportive environment requires everyone’s involvement.

How It Will Benefit Them:

đź“Ś Girls will gain accurate knowledge about their menstrual health and hygiene.

đź“Ś They will build confidence and self-esteem, knowing their bodies are normal and nothing to be ashamed of.
