CALABAR PARADISE LEO CLUB SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF CORE PROJECT 2

On Friday, 23rd January 2026, the students of Army Day Secondary School, Eburutu Barracks, Ikot Ansa, Calabar experienced a welcome upgrade as the Calabar Paradise Leo Club, led by the ever service-oriented Leo Theresa Efion, successfully delivered its Core Project 2, and no, this time it wasn’t just speeches and photographs (though there were plenty of those too).

The project involved the donation of whiteboards, board markers, and dusters, simple tools, yet powerful enough to transform lessons from “copy am quietly” to “pay attention, this is important.” The initiative was driven by the Leo Club’s passion for selfless service, youth leadership, and community development, perfectly aligned with the ideals of Lions Clubs International.

The event attracted an impressive gathering of Lions and Leos who clearly agreed that education is worth showing up for. In attendance was the Sponsoring Lions President of Calabar Paradise Lions Club, Lion Winifred Nso, whose consistent support continues to keep the Leo Club energized and focused. Also present was the ever-supportive Leo Advisor, Lion Idaka Isaac, and Distinguished Past President of Calabar Paradise Lions Club, Lion Dr. Miriam Edu Egere, bringing wisdom, experience, and grace to the occasion as well as Lion Evalsam Ekpe, the Zone 6A Chairperson, whose presence reminded everyone that when Leos work hard, the entire Lions family proudly watches.

The Leo leadership was well represented by the District President of Leo District 404A2, Nigeria, Leo Joyce Eduebuk, and the Leo Region 4 Director, Leo Prince Austine, both of whom were clearly pleased to see service translated into action.

The school community warmly received the team, represented by the Principal, Mr. Sullivan Igodo, the Vice Principal, and several dedicated teachers who wasted no time admiring the new boards (and possibly planning who would write on them first). Various members of the Calabar Paradise Leo Club, alongside Leos from other Leo Clubs, were also present, proving once again that service is better when done together, hence the slogan: Together, we serve better

In his acceptance speech, the Principal, Sullivan Igodo, who was a member of a similar service organization, the Rotary Club, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Leo Club for their generosity, noting that this is purely selfless service from his knowledge as a Rotarian. He praised the club’s selfless service and youthful leadership, noting that the donated materials would greatly improve classroom teaching and learning. He assured everyone that the whiteboards, markers, and dusters would be carefully utilized, and encouraged the Leos to continue being shining examples of community-driven leadership.

The project wrapped up successfully with smiles, handshakes, group photographs, and the shared satisfaction of work well done. Core Project 2 stands as a proud achievement of the Calabar Paradise Leo Club, under the dynamic leadership of Leo Theresa Efiom, once again proving that when Leos serve, communities feel it, and in this case, classrooms get brighter too.

HUNGER RELIEF PROJECT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL WORKERS
By Calabar Paradise Lions Club | District 404A2, Nigeria

On Friday, the 12th of December 2025, members of Calabar Paradise Lions Club carried out a hunger relief intervention for Environmental Workers in Calabar Metropolis. The project was initiated to support and appreciate the tireless efforts of these workers whose services contribute significantly to community hygiene, sanitation, and environmental sustainability.

Environmental sanitation workers are often unseen heroes. They brave harsh weather conditions and demanding tasks to protect public health and preserve our environment. Recognizing their invaluable contribution, the Calabar Paradise Lions Club set out at about 5.30am to not only say thank you, but to act meaningfully in the yuletide season

Objectives;

1. To alleviate hunger among environmental workers through the distribution of essential food baskets.

2. To provide immediate financial support through cash donations for personal or household needs.

3. To enhance worker safety and visibility during operations by issuing high-quality reflective work vests.

4. To recognize and encourage the continued dedication and commitment of environmental workers.

The project brought smiles, encouragement, and renewed morale to the beneficiaries. Beyond the material support, it sent a powerful message of dignity, recognition, and solidarity: that their work matter and their service to humanity is deeply valued.

This initiative also reinforces the Lions Club’s commitment to:

Hunger relief
Community health and safety
Environmental sustainability
Compassionate service leadership & Appreciation

The project was executed under the leadership of Lion Amb. Winifred Nso, Club President for the 2025/2026 Lions Service Year, with the dedication and coordination of Lion Dr. Miriam Egere, Service Chairperson, alongside committed club members who gave their time and resources to make the project a success.

The Hunger Relief Project for Environmental Workers stands as another testament to the Calabar Paradise Lions Club’s unwavering commitment to service above self. As Lions, we remain steadfast in our mission to touch lives, uplift communities, and create lasting impact, one act of kindness at a time.

Celebrating the LEO Club at 68: A Legacy of Leadership, Service & Youth Empowerment
As the LEO Club proudly marks 68 remarkable years, the world is once again reminded of the power of young people united by a single mission: Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. What began as a simple initiative to involve young people in humanitarian service has evolved into a global movement shaping responsible citizens, dynamic leaders, and compassionate changemakers.
For nearly seven decades, the LEO Club Program has been a training ground for countless youths who have grown into pillars of their local, national, and international communities. Every project, every outreach, every act of kindness has contributed to a legacy that continues to shine brightly across continents.
At its core, the LEO Club embodies a spirit of service; service without boundaries, without discrimination, and without expectation of reward. From environmental cleanups to food drives, literacy programs, and health outreaches, LEOs have consistently shown that young hands can lift heavy burdens when driven by purpose.
Today’s world needs responsible youth more than ever. With challenges ranging from climate change to poverty, social unrest, and digital misinformation, the energy of young people must be channeled into constructive engagement. The LEO Club has proven that when youth are empowered, the world is transformed.
Being a LEO is more than wearing a vest or attending meetings. It is a commitment to being part of the solution. It is a call to embrace leadership not as a title but as a lifestyle of service, discipline, empathy, and innovation.
As the LEO Club steps into another year of service, the responsibility rests on every young person to protect this legacy. The world is watching. Communities are waiting. History is recording.
To every LEO and aspiring youth leader:
Your hands, your ideas, your passion, and your courage are needed more than ever.
Stand tall. Serve boldly. Lead with heart.
Happy 68th Anniversary to the LEO Club, “A global beacon of youth leadership, service, and hope”.

The Calabar Paradise Leo Club successfully carried out its Anniversary Project titled “Leovangelism & Shuttle Fare Support Project for UNICAL Students” on Monday, 29th September 2025 at the University of Calabar Shuttle Park.

The project provided free shuttle fares to students while also promoting Leovangelism, sensitizing them on the values of service, leadership, and volunteerism. Led by Leo Theresa Effiom (Club President), Leo Elizabeth Okete (Project Director), and Leo Benjamin Akawu (Membership Director) the initiative combined direct student support with awareness creation.

Dozens of students benefited directly from free transportation, while hundreds more were engaged through awareness campaigns. Despite minor challenges such as limited resources, the project generated goodwill, boosted the club’s visibility, and strengthened its bond with the university community.

The project was deemed a resounding success, meeting its objectives of easing student burdens and promoting the Leo movement in the Spirit of Lions.
