Empowering Vulnerable Youths Through Skills, Hope, and Opportunity.

Today, on World Youth Skills Day, SATWO Foundation proudly celebrates the resilience, creativity, and determination of young people, especially displaced youths whose dreams have been challenged by conflict, displacement, and poverty. We firmly believe that every young person deserves more than survival—they deserve the opportunity to learn, create, innovate, and build a future filled with dignity and hope.

Skills development is not just about learning a trade; it is about restoring confidence, rebuilding lives, reducing unemployment, preventing exploitation, and transforming vulnerable youths into productive entrepreneurs and community leaders. Every skill acquired is a powerful step away from dependency and a giant leap toward economic independence, self-reliance, and lasting peace.

For years, SATWO Foundation has remained committed to this vision by equipping over 1,000 vulnerable youths across refugee settlements and host communities in Nigeria with practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills, including soap making, shoe production, tailoring, bag making, catering, hairdressing, digital literacy, and other livelihood opportunities. Beyond training, we nurture dreams, inspire innovation, and ignite hope in young people who once believed their future had been stolen by displacement. Every handcrafted product, every certificate earned, every small business established, and every smile restored is a testimony that investing in youth skills is one of the most powerful humanitarian responses to poverty, inequality, and forced displacement. When we empower one young person with a skill, we uplift a family, strengthen a community, and contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous society.

Celebration of Hope, Compassion and New Beginnings

As the curtains gracefully close on the 2025–2026 Academic Year, SATWO Foundation Academy Calabar celebrated an unforgettable End-of-Year Meal with our incredible pupils—children whose lives represent courage, resilience, and hope despite the challenges of displacement and vulnerability.

This memorable occasion was made possible through the extraordinary generosity of Her Excellency, the First Lady of Cross River State, Bishop Dr. Rev. Mrs. Enyoanwan Edet Otu, whose unwavering support continues to bring smiles, dignity, and renewed hope to hundreds of children across our schools in the refugee settlements and host communities. Her compassionate partnership has gone far beyond a single event; it has strengthened our mission, inspired our staff, and reaffirmed the belief that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves quality education, nutritious meals, protection, and the opportunity to dream. We remain profoundly grateful for her remarkable leadership, kindness, and commitment to humanity.

SATWO Foundation Academy Calabar stands today as a powerful symbol of what compassion, vision, and purposeful leadership can achieve. Founded through the inspiring vision of our CEO, Mr. Azie Talisesius, the Academy was established to provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment for refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), vulnerable children, and the less privileged. What began as a dream has grown into a movement of transformation, restoring hope and opening doors to brighter futures for thousands of refugee and displaced children across Nigeria through education, protection, empowerment, and humanitarian service. As our pupils begin their well-deserved summer holiday, we celebrate not only another successful academic year but also every life touched, every dream reignited, and every future being shaped.

A SAFE SPACE TO LEARN, HEAL AND DREAM AGAIN
Every afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the SATWO Foundation transforms the Child Friendly Space (CFS) at Adagom 1 Refugee Settlement, Ogoja, Cross River State, Nigeria, into a place of hope, learning, healing, and joy for refugee children. Here, children who have experienced displacement, uncertainty, and trauma are given the opportunity to rebuild their confidence through remedial classes, educational games, guided exercises, creative learning, and structured play activities. Beyond academics, these sessions help children regain a sense of normalcy, improve their social and emotional well-being, strengthen friendships, and develop critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, and life skills in a safe and nurturing environment.

The impact of these daily activities extends far beyond the children. Parents are reassured knowing their children are spending their evenings in a protected environment where they are learning rather than being exposed to negative influences. Academic performance improves, school attendance increases, behavioural challenges reduce, and children rediscover hope for a brighter future.

At SATWO Foundation, we firmly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, play, heal, and thrive regardless of the circumstances that forced them from their homes.
Our commitment goes beyond Adagom 1 Refugee Settlement. We remain dedicated to expanding these life-changing interventions to refugees across settlements, internally displaced persons (IDPs) in urban communities, and other vulnerable children, ensuring that no child is left behind.

Today, as the world commemorates World Refugee Day 2026, we stand in solidarity with millions of refugees across the globe whose lives have been shaped by conflict, persecution, disasters, and displacement.
At Satwo Foundation, our journey with refugees has taught us one of humanity's greatest lessons: resilience in the face of adversity. Behind every refugee is a story of courage, sacrifice, survival, hope, and an unwavering determination to rebuild life against all odds.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of walking alongside refugee families and host communities through transformative interventions in education, livelihoods, environmental protection, food security, agricultural empowerment, skills development, and advocacy. We have witnessed children return to classrooms, women regain their economic independence, farmers restore their livelihoods, and families rediscover hope where despair once existed.

Being a refugee is not a choice. No one chooses to leave behind their home, loved ones, culture, memories, and everything familiar. Yet refugees continue to demonstrate extraordinary strength, dignity, and perseverance while navigating uncertain futures.

With hearts full of gratitude and deep appreciation, we sincerely thank Her Excellency, Bishop Dr. Rev. Mrs. Eyoanwan Edet Otu, the First Lady of Cross River State, for her extraordinary kindness and motherly support to Satwo Foundation Academy, Calabar.

Your generous donation of school uniforms, books, bags, sandals, scholastic materials and many other essential items has restored hope, dignity and confidence to vulnerable children affected by intertribal conflicts, Fulani herdsmen attacks, displacement and extreme poverty. Many of these children, including IDPs, FDPs and other disadvantaged Nigerian children, lacked even the most basic educational materials. Through your compassion, they can now return to learning with smiles, pride and renewed dreams for a brighter future.

We are equally grateful for your nutritional support and school feeding initiative for the children. For many of these young ones, this meal support is more than food; it is strength, comfort and a reason to remain in school. Most of their parents are struggling with severe poverty and cannot afford quality education or proper feeding for their children. Your intervention has become a lifeline, proving that true leadership is rooted in compassion, humanity and service to the vulnerable.

According to the CEO of Satwo Foundation, Azie Talisesius, the less privileged remain the top priority of this initiative. He believes that more than 50% of vulnerable children are highly intelligent, gifted and full of potential, but sadly lack opportunities and people willing to hold their hands through life. Having personally understood the pain and realities of poverty, he remains committed to filling that vacuum and ensuring that underprivileged African children are given equal opportunities to thrive just like their counterparts in the Western world.

With over eight years of firsthand humanitarian experience working with displaced children, especially refugees, and over two years serving stagnant and underserved communities, Satwo Foundation is determined to establish global standards in education for the less privileged, such as Leadership, Character Education, ICT and Linguistics.......such as Leadership, Character Education, ICT and Linguistics from the foundational level, raising a generation of confident, disciplined, innovative and globally competitive African children.

At Satwo Foundation, we believe that every child deserves more than survival — every child deserves dignity, love, protection, and access to quality education regardless of their background, status, or condition.

Beyond providing Early Childhood Nursery and Primary Education to refugees and host communities, we understand the painful realities of vulnerability, displacement, poverty, and exclusion. We understand what it means for a child to go to bed uncertain about tomorrow. We understand the struggles of parents who desperately desire a better future for their children but lack the means. We understand the silent tears of caregivers and teachers who sacrifice daily to keep hope alive in the hearts of vulnerable children.

These experiences are not just stories to us — they are realities we have witnessed closely.

Today, our hearts are filled with renewed hope as we expand our mission.....amidst accruing global challenges. Our newest center in Calabar serve mostly vulnerable Nigerians including internally displaced persons (FDPs and non-FDPs), orphans, children living with disabilities, and children from extremely poor and struggling families.

This vision is driven by the passion and humanitarian commitment of the CEO of Satwo Foundation, Azie Talisesius, whose unwavering belief is that education must never be a privilege reserved for a few, but a right accessible to all without barriers.

History has shown us repeatedly that many of the greatest leaders Africa and the world celebrate today emerged from painful, humble, and difficult beginnings. Behind many success stories are childhoods marked by hunger, rejection, poverty, displacement, and suffering.

Sadly, millions of vulnerable children today may never realize their dreams simply because nobody paid attention to them early enough.
