Every great compost starts with the right materials. 🌱 The first step in producing quality organic compost is gathering biodegradable materials such as fruit and vegetable waste, dry leaves, grass clippings, animal manure, and other organic matter to kick-start the composting process and produce nutrient-rich manure for healthier soils and sustainable farming.

Care for Social Welfare International with UN Women Nigeria and funded by Women's Peace & Humanitarian Fund continues to equip women with practical, climate-smart agricultural skills.

During our training on Developing Nutrient-Rich Liquid Fertilizers from Decomposed Fruits and Vegetables for Sustainable Farming, participants filtered the fermented liquid fertilizer and separated the solid residue, preparing the liquid for crop application.

The fertilizer can now be diluted to improve soil fertility, boost plant growth, and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers. The solid residue will be used as compost or organic manure, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

This exercise reinforced sustainable waste management, resource recovery, and eco-friendly farming while empowering women with skills they can use in their farms and communities.

As part of our training on Developing Nutrient-Rich Liquid Fertilizers from Decomposed Fruits and Vegetables for Sustainable Farming, the women participants creatively demonstrated their understanding of the topic through a short educational drama.
The presentation highlighted how organic fruit and vegetable waste can be transformed into nutrient-rich liquid fertilizer, promoting improved soil fertility, increased crop productivity, environmental sustainability, and reduced reliance on chemical fertilizers.

CASWI successfully conducted a practical training on the production of nutrient-rich liquid fertilizers from decomposed fruits and vegetables.

Participants actively took part in the hands-on demonstration, learning how to convert organic waste into valuable fertilizer for crop production.

The training highlighted numerous benefits, including improved soil fertility, enhanced crop growth and yield, reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers, lower farming costs, effective waste management, improved soil microbial activity, and environmentally friendly farming practices.
Participants also learned how this simple technology can contribute to food security, climate-smart agriculture, and increased household income.
The session was highly interactive, filled with questions, practical learning, and plenty of laughter, creating an enjoyable environment for knowledge sharing and skill development.
Through initiatives like this, CASWI remains committed to empowering communities with sustainable agricultural practices that improve livelihoods and protect the environment.

Today, following the seminar on Organic Compost Production from Crop Residues, Poultry Litter, and Food Scraps to Enhance Soil Fertility, the women participants successfully demonstrated the compost production process during a hands-on practical session.

The practical exercise provided an opportunity for participants to apply the knowledge gained, showcasing their understanding of proper compost preparation techniques and the importance of organic fertilizers in improving soil fertility and promoting sustainable agriculture.

We are proud of their enthusiasm, active participation, and commitment to adopting environmentally friendly farming practices that contribute to food security and healthier communities.

Building Sustainable Agriculture Through Organic Composting

As part of our commitment to empowering communities with climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, our Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer recently facilitated a seminar on "Organic Compost Production from Crop Residues, Poultry Litter, and Food Scraps to Enhance Soil Fertility".

Participants gained practical knowledge on converting agricultural and household waste into nutrient-rich organic compost, helping to improve soil health, increase crop productivity, reduce environmental pollution, and promote sustainable farming practices.

Together, we are encouraging eco-friendly solutions that support food security, environmental conservation, and community resilience.

We had an amazing and impactful time live on radio at Sparkling FM, sharing the vision, mission, and ongoing projects of Care for Social Welfare International.

During the session, we highlighted our ongoing Women ECO-SMART Empowerment and Leadership Project, focused on empowering women through sustainable agriculture, leadership development, economic opportunities, and community support initiatives.

We also discussed important issues surrounding healthcare, hepatitis screening and vaccination, women and children’s welfare, gender-based violence awareness, and community development.
We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the community and share the impact we are creating together. Thank you to everyone who listened, supported, and engaged with us during the session.
