Earlier today, the leadership of Bwari youths had a critical engagement with the leadership of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Bwari unit at the palace.
The meeting was prompted by an official letter sent by the youth leadership, which drew the attention of the newly posted AEDC Business Manager, *Mr. Esan Dafe Glory,* and the Technical Director, *Mr. Aliyu Mohammed* . The duo acknowledged that their visit was in direct response to the letter and the concern raised by the youth community.
After brief introductions, the Youth President, Comrade Habila Awoyi, explained the purpose of the meeting to register the communityโs frustration over the prolonged and irregular power supply in Bwari town, especially when nearby communities enjoy more stable electricity.
In his response, Mr. Esan commended the youth leadership for their maturity and constructive approach in handling the issue. He stated that among all the places he has served, Bwari youths stand out for their civility and clarity in presenting their demands.
He explained that the persistent power issue is primarily due to a faulty Bwari feeder, which serves multiple areas including Bwari town, Garam, Ijah, Kuduru, and others. The situation, according to him, has been escalated to AEDC headquarters, but no resolution has been received so far.
He further explained that because these areas are linked to the same feeder, power distribution is currently overloaded, leading to weak and overstretched infrastructure. As a result, supply becomes unstable.
The AEDC team encouraged the youth leadership to also write directly to the AEDC General Manager at the headquarters, stating that such a move could accelerate action, especially when supported by their own internal reports.
Addressing a common misconception, Mr. Esan clarified that the issue is not about transitioning from 11kVA to 33kVA. Rather, the focus should be on fixing the 11kVA substation serving the Bwaya community. He assured that a properly functioning 11kVA station can deliver up to 13 hours of power, closely matching the 15 hours provided by a 33kVA line.
Following a thorough and honest deliberation, it was resolved that a formal letter be drafted and forwarded to the AEDC headquarters, guided by inputs from the local AEDC officials, to ensure prompt and appropriate attention to the electricity challenges facing Bwari.
