This Easter, we are reminded that Jesus Christ has paid the ultimate price for our redemption. Jesus has shown us that no burden is too heavy when carried with faith and hope.

Even in moments of accusation, pain, rejection, and deep humiliation, His life teaches us that suffering is not the end of the story.

On behalf of "Our Life Supporting Initiative", we urge you to hold on, because your life still carries purpose and meaning beyond what you see now.

The cross was not the conclusion, but the pathway to resurrection and victory.
Your struggles do not define you, and your present pain will not last forever.

In your darkest hour, remember that you are not alone, and your story is still being written by a loving God.

Let this season renew your strength to rise above despair and silence every voice that tells you to give up.

There is hope after hardship, healing after hurt, and light after every darkness.

Choose to stay, choose to fight against the challenges of life, and choose to believe that better days are ahead.

This Easter, may your heart be filled with courage, peace, and the unshakable assurance that life is worth living.

World Su***de Prevention Day on September 10th is an opportunity for communities worldwide—including charitable organisations, researchers, clinicians, practitioners, policymakers, volunteers, those bereaved by su***de, those with lived experience, and individuals—to start the conversation on su***de prevention
"Understanding Your Mental Health."

Date: 8th-10th September, 2025

The Power of Letting Go

One vital lesson I have learned in life is the importance of letting go (forgiveness). Throughout my journey, I have made a conscious effort to release the burdens of my past experiences, and embracing each new chapter of my life with hope and determination.

I have also come to realize that positivity and resilience are crucial to overcoming adversity. To maintain mental well-being, I have learned to distance myself from toxic individuals who seek to inject negativity into my life. Their harmful influence (words, actions and deeds) can be devastating, and I prioritize my peace of mind above familial or social ties.

To safeguard my mental health, I have established boundaries:1) blocked and deleted toxic individuals' contacts (phone number, Facebook account, and messenger account, etc, 2) avoided negative conversations, and 3) sought supportive relationships ( in my marriage, church associations, work, and political party, etc).

Embracing diversity has also enriched my life by:
1) adopting friends from various cultures, and nations (Idoma, Tiv, Igbo, Hausa, Efik, Yoruba, America, Kenya, and India, etc) has broadened my perspective about how to manage issues of life, 2) surrounding myself with positivity fosters my growth, development and above all, positive thinking and attitude towards life.

Forgiveness is key, but so is setting boundaries. If blocking toxic individuals (who cause you pain), relocation or separation is necessary for your mental well-being, please take action. I am not advocating for divorce amongst couples. But again, your mental well-being is a "sine qua non" for a successful marriage.

Letting go and embracing positivity has transformed my life over the years. By prioritizing my mental health and surrounding myself with supportive relationships, I have discovered strength and resilience. Remember, your well-being is worth fighting for. Release the burdens of negativity, and welcome a brighter future.

May God grant you the grace to release the burdens of your past experiences and embrace each new chapter of your life with hope and determination. Amen!

Finding Strength in Adversity

Those facing depression due to various challenges of life and may contemplate su***de, should recognize that God's world inherently includes difficulties. Nature's cycles illustrate this:

1. Dry seasons bring scorching heat and harmattan.
2. Rainy seasons can cause floods and devastation.

These natural challenges teach us resilience. Remember, someone elsewhere faces even greater hardships.

Let's dispel the myth that life should be effortless. Even Jesus, divine and human, endured suffering for our redemption.

Some religious leaders promise prosperity, claiming suffering is not for believers. However, scripture reveals that trials refine faith.

Embrace the truth:
1. Challenges test our resolve.
2. Perseverance strengthens our character.
3. Hope revives our spirits.

Reflect on biblical wisdom:

1. "In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

2. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18).

Tragic Loss

As I reflect on the tragic loss of the young man who took his life by su***de on Wednesday along Deeper Life Church Road, Bwari, Abuja, my heart goes out to his loved ones and community. The image of him sitting on those rocks, rope in hand, overwhelmed by sorrow and regret, haunts me.

In that moment, I imagine the turmoil in his mind-the excruciating struggle between the desire to escape pain and the faint glimmer of hope. The weight of guilt and despair must have been crushing, as the voice of despair whispered, "It will never get better; just end it all."

But what if another voice had spoken louder? A voice of hope, urging him to hold on, to stay alive and witness his own transformation? What if he knew that every darkness eventually yields to light? That every struggle has an end, and a new beginning waits on the horizon?

As I ponder this tragic event, I'm reminded of the importance of mental health support and community. We must create safe spaces for vulnerability, where struggles are met with compassion and understanding. We must amplify the voices of hope and resilience, ensuring that no one feels alone in their darkest moments.

Let this young man's story be a catalyst for change. Let us strive to build a society where struggles are met with empathy, and hope is within reach. Together, we can break the silence surrounding mental health and ensure that no one feels compelled to take their own life.

2023 World Su***de Prevention Day: From the President's Desk

1. I wish to use this occasion of the World Su***de Prevention Day to thank all of you, who despite all challenges, choose to remain strong. You are our absurd heroes! We at ASGI celebrates you all! Keep pushing. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

2. Today, the 10th of September, is World Su***de Prevention Day. The World Su***de Prevention Day (WSPD) was established in 2003 by the International Association for Su***de Prevention in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). September 10th every year focuses attention on the issue of su***de, reduces stigma associated with su***de and raises awareness among organizations, government, and the public, giving a singular message that su***de can be prevented.

3. The theme for this year's event is “Creating hope through action.” The theme is the triennial theme for the World Su***de Prevention Day from 2021 - 2023. We are reminded by this theme that there is an alternative to su***de. The theme also aims to inspire confidence, hope and light in all of us. The theme also reminded us that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

4. We are called to create hope in people around us through our actions. It is through creating hope through our actions, that we can signal to people around us experiencing suicidal thoughts that there is hope after all the challenges and that we care and want to support them. The theme also suggests that our actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling with depression, anxiety, hopelessness, pain, terminal illnesses and other mental health issues.

5. Finally, the theme highlights the importance of setting su***de prevention as a priority public health agenda by countries, particularly where access to mental health services and availability of evidence-based interventions are already low. Just last year, President Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria signed into law the Counseling Bill. We thank God that professional Counsellors can now practice and Nigerians can now seek succour through counseling services.

6. The actions we are called to take are genuine. We can all play a role in supporting those experiencing a suicidal crisis or those bereaved by su***de whether as a member of society, as a child, as a parent, as a friend, as a colleague or as a person with lived experience. We can all encourage understanding about the issue, reach in to people who are struggling, and share our experiences. We can all create hope through action and be the light.

7. May God bless you as you create hope through your actions and be the light to others.
