500 OGONI POST-GRADUATE STUDENTS TO BENEFIT FROM HYPREP SCHOLARSHIP
In a major initiative to foster human capacity development in Ogoni, the Federal Government has announced that 500 post-graduate students from the region will benefit from the 2025 HYPREP Scholarship Grant. Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), revealed this during a sensitisation workshop in Port Harcourt, emphasizing that the selection process would prioritize fairness, merit, and accountability. He urged applicants to earn the opportunity through diligent effort and to use it for advancing research and career growth, describing the scholarship as an investment in the brilliance, research, and aspirations of Ogoni youths. Aligning with HYPREP's broader commitment to restoring livelihoods, building capacity, and implementing the United Nations Environment Programme Report, Professor Zabbey highlighted youths as the primary beneficiaries and encouraged them to promote peace, education, and unity while creating a supportive environment for the project's success. He also called for collaboration, adherence to procedures, and the avoidance of negative online commentary, advising stakeholders to channel inquiries through official avenues.
In keynote addresses, Dr. Sorbarikor Lebura from Rivers State University advised prospective beneficiaries to view the grant as a seed for their academic pursuits, while Mr. Edward Baa outlined eligibility criteria and announced that the application portal on the HYPREP would open on August 29, 2025, at 6:00 PM GMT and close on September 12, 2025. The workshop was attended by post-graduate students from Ogoni's four local government areas, along with key HYPREP officials and representatives.
