Azurfa Women participated in the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN)–SHF Joint Stakeholders Workshop held on 8 September 2026 in Abuja.
The workshop focused on improving access to finance for sanitation and hygiene businesses.
We engaged with participating financial institutions to explore financing opportunities and support for MSMEs.

What happens when women come together, pool their strength, and dream bigger? Impact!

In this testimony, women from the community proudly share why they chose to name their Village Savings and Loan Federation “Nabordo Emirate Council Central Bank”—a name that reflects their aspiration for stronger collective savings, greater access to finance, and improved livelihoods.

For these women, the VSLF is more than a financial structure; it is a pathway to economic empowerment, stronger businesses, and greater opportunities for their families and communities.

We are grateful to AWOYDI, Fawoydi, ActionAid Nigeria, and the Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada(GAC) for investing in women’s voices, leadership and economic empowerment.

📍 Location: Ungwan Fulani and Ungwan Sogiji Communities, Zaria LGA, Kaduna State.
The training aims to strengthen community knowledge and practical skills for sustainable livelihoods, responsible natural resource management, and peaceful coexistence.

Together, We Can Do More! 🤝🏾🌱

The VSLF training is opening new possibilities for women in Ungwan Laka and Naborbo communities. In their own words, participants share how coming together as VSLAs through the Village Savings and Loan Federation (VSLF) can strengthen their collective financial capacity and create opportunities to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Beyond savings, the women are gaining knowledge, building stronger networks, and exploring better ways to access finance, markets, and economic opportunities.

Their appreciation goes to AWOYDI, Fawoydi, ActionAid Nigeria, and the Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada(GAC) for supporting this important investment in women’s economic empowerment.
