And just like that, the journey comes to a powerful and deeply inspiring close. 💜✨

The Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Fire Brand Initiative (Group 3 Her Voice Changemakers) has successfully concluded the Her Skills, Her Future project, wrapping up their final engagement at the Special Education Centre, Bauchi, after earlier sessions at Government Girls Secondary School and Hope Academy.

At the Special Education Centre, it was especially beautiful to witness deaf, blind, and mute girls actively participating in hands-on learning activities such as Vaseline production and Bead Making. Despite different abilities, the girls worked with focus, creativity, and teamwork—proving that talent, intelligence, and potential are not defined by disability.

Across all three schools, the sessions created safe and inclusive spaces where girls could learn practical skills, build confidence, and explore entrepreneurship. But this final stop carried a unique reminder: inclusion is not charity, it is opportunity, dignity, and possibility.

This journey consistently reinforced one message: when girls are equipped with the right skills and support, they are capable of building brighter, more independent futures for themselves.

Through the SAGE Project, Young Leaders Network, with support from the Malala Fund, remains committed to creating spaces where all girls—regardless of ability—can learn, lead, create, and thrive.

Why are girls still being left behind in education? And more importantly… what are we going to do about it?💜🔥

To foster meaningful change, the YLN Ellen Johnson Power Squad engaged the Sabon Kaura Community in honest conversations about the barriers keeping girls out of school, from poverty and family responsibilities to school levies, limited resources, and harmful misconceptions about girls’ education.

But this wasn’t just a conversation. It was a purpose-driven intervention under the SAGE Project, designed to challenge harmful social norms, correct misinformation, and strengthen community responsibility for keeping girls in school, learning, and thriving.

Together, community members explored practical solutions, including stronger government support, more teachers, women’s economic empowerment, better school engagement, and greater involvement from fathers in supporting their children’s education.

Because when communities understand the why, they can take action on the how. 💜

Through the SAGE Project, Young Leaders Network, with support from the Malala Fund, continues to create bold spaces where conversations become action and girls’ education becomes a shared responsibility, not an afterthought.

346 Pupils to One Toilet Is Not a Learning Environment
Toilets are not a luxury in schools. They are part of dignity, safety and retention.

Findings from the Bauchi Annual School Census Report 2024/2025

The census shows that at public pre-primary and primary level, the pupil-toilet ratio is 346:1. Some LGAs are worse, including Toro at 805:1 and Itas-Gadau at 622:1.

This has serious implications for children’s health, school attendance and girls’ dignity, especially during menstruation.

WASH must be treated as a core education investment, not a side project.

Your vote is your voice. Use it wisely. 🗳️

On 14 August 2026, Young Leaders Network with support from National Endowment for Democracy conducted a Voter Education Rally at Lusa Main Market, Bogoro LGA, engaging market traders, women, youth, and other community members on the importance of informed and peaceful participation in elections.

Participants were sensitized on voter registration and verification, safeguarding their PVCs, confirming their polling units, and making informed choices based on candidates’ programmes and competence. The discussion also emphasized rejecting vote buying and electoral violence.

The rally created space for citizens to ask questions, share concerns, and better understand their rights and responsibilities as voters.

At YLN, we believe an informed voter is an empowered citizen, and active participation is essential to building peaceful and credible elections.

Development should never happen without the people it is meant to serve.

In Ningi LGA, Bauchi State, community leaders, women and youth representatives, persons with disabilities, religious and traditional leaders, and other stakeholders came together for a Community Charter of Demand (CCD) engagement to identify and prioritize the issues that matter most to their communities.

Through open dialogue and collective decision-making, participants brought diverse voices to the table and identified priorities for engagement with government and development partners.

A 95:1 Pupil-Teacher Ratio Is Too High for Real Learning
No teacher should be expected to give quality attention to almost 100 pupils at once.

Findings from the Bauchi Annual School Census Report 2024/2025

The census shows that public pre-primary and primary schools have a pupil-teacher ratio of 95:1. Some LGAs face even higher pressure, including Zaki, Toro, Itas-Gadau, Gamawa and Warji.

This is why education planning must go beyond recruitment numbers.

Bauchi needs teachers in the right schools, in the right communities, and in the classrooms where pressure is highest.

Teacher deployment must follow evidence.
