Thamani strongly condemns the reported r**e and violent intimidation of a 13-year-old girl in Dass LGA.
Such acts are cruel, unacceptable, and a gross violation of the rights and dignity of every child.
We call for a thorough investigation, swift prosecution, and full enforcement of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) (VAPP) Law to ensure justice for the survivor and accountability for the perpetrator if found guilty. We also urge that the survivor receives the necessary medical, psychosocial, and legal support.

Children must be protected, and there should be zero tolerance for all forms of sexual and gender-based violence..

We commend and acknowledging the prompt response of the Bauchi State Police Command in arresting the suspect and commencing investigations, this case must be handled with utmost professionalism, urgency, and sensitivity.

Our Story of Change: Strengthening Women Through VSLA

Thamani for Women and Youth Development Initiative introduced a self-funded Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) to help women develop a culture of saving, access small loans, and improve their livelihoods.
Before the intervention, many participants relied on informal borrowing with high interest rates and had little opportunity to save consistently.
Through regular savings meetings, financial literacy sessions, and access to loans from their collective savings, members were able to start or expand small businesses, support their children's education, and meet household needs without falling into debt. The VSLA also strengthened trust, mutual support, and leadership among the women, increasing their confidence to participate in community activities and household financial decisions.

Today, the VSLA stands as a practical example of how locally driven, self-funded initiatives can empower women economically, build resilience, and create lasting positive change within communities.

When a woman saves, a family grows stronger. When women come together, communities become more resilient.
At Thamani, we have witnessed that true change begins with opportunity, grows through collective action, and lasts through empowerment.
These are the stories that inspire us to keep going. Together, we are building a future where every woman has the chance to thrive, every child has hope, and every community can realize its full potential.

Some of the biggest changes don't begin with big investments. They begin with people deciding not to face tomorrow alone.

That is the story of a cooperative.

It is the farmer who knows that together, they can negotiate better. It is the woman entrepreneur who finds a community that believes in her business. It is the young person who discovers that collaboration can open doors that competition cannot.

On this International Day of Cooperatives, we celebrate a simple but powerful idea: when people pool their knowledge, resources, and aspirations, they don't just improve incomes—they strengthen communities, build resilience, and create opportunities that endure.

At Thamani, we are privileged to witness this every day. Behind every thriving cooperative are people choosing unity over isolation and collective progress over individual struggle.

Here's to the cooperatives proving that the future is built together, not alone.

Happy International Day of Cooperatives!
