Title: From the Streets of Bauchi to the Cockpit! 🧑‍✈️✈️

Happy Children’s Day! This year’s national theme is "Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child"—and we are living it out every single day at Project HOPE.

Inclusion means our teenagers don't have to wear pristine school uniforms to have massive, boundary-breaking dreams. One of our amazing girls dreams of becoming a Pilot. Our boy Gero went from the scrap yard to mastering his A-Z and numbers in just four weeks.

They have the blueprints for greatness; they just need us to open the door. Thank you to every YBS Lover and partner helping us prove that every Nigerian child belongs at the top. Let’s keep building! 🏗️🌟

What do you do when a 14-year-old writes himself off? 😔

It’s one of the hardest questions we have to face at Project HOPE.

Lately, one of our bright young participants, Alabo, has stopped showing up for classes. When you see a child taking a free opportunity to learn for granted, it is easy to feel disappointed. It is easy to want to write them off, too.

But the reality of working with out-of-school teenagers is that the pull of the street is strong. When a child has dropped out of the system and spent years feeling unseen, disappearing becomes a defense mechanism. They aren't just skipping class because they don't care; they are skipping because they are terrified of failing.

Why should we care about someone who doesn't care about himself?

Because we promised these kids we would stay. We promised them they are not "lost," but are waiting for a foundation they can actually trust. Alabo is still a future Architect, even if he can't see the blueprint right now.

We need our Facebook community’s help today. We need ideas.

👉 What can we do inside the classroom to make him feel safe enough to return?

The "Problem" We Never Expected... 🛑🏗️

See wahala. 😓
My team and I was prepared for the hard work of teaching, but not for this.

Today, two more children showed up at Project HOPE. Uninvited. Unenrolled. Just standing there with that look in their eyes that says, "Is there room for me to dream, too?"

What does this show?
It shows that the "Mindset Shift" we are preaching is working. The teenagers in the scrap yards and markets are talking. They’ve seen Gero’s transformation. They see that school can be enticing and fun, and they want in.

Our Dilemma
How do we send them away? How do you tell a child who has finally found the courage to seek a future that we "don't have the budget"?

The truth is, we don’t want to turn them back to the garbage dump. We want to welcome them to the drafting table. But training out-of-school youth takes immense wisdom, tact, and reinforcement—and that requires resources.

The implication is we would need a "Hope Expansion" for these new Architects if we take them in.

Meena behind the mask now sociable.

See how your life life can just change in a short time when given the right opportunity.

Meena is 12 years old, enlisted to join our Project Hope for the out of school teenagers. For most of her life, the world of school has been a closed door. Having dropped out in Primary 2, she lived in the shadows —disconnected from peers and the "alphabet world" entirely. When she first joined us, she was shy, keeping her distance from everyone.

During a session we called the "Wall of Masks," we asked the children to draw symbols of how the world sees them versus how they see themselves. Meena’s symbols were a revelation. She was finally able to put on paper the barriers she felt between herself and the "people outside".

Just one month later, the mask is falling off. Meena, who once didn't know the alphabet existed, can now write and identify letters! She can count from 1 to 100 with just a little help. But even more importantly, she has become sociable. The "timid" girl is becoming a purposeful participant.

Meena has spent her life being told she doesn't fit. Now, she is a Master Architect in the making.

Project Hope MATTER.

Oliver ask for more! 😲

You will not believe that in week 2 of our 10 months project of overhauling 10 Architects of the Future that we have seen it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. 🐸

While we lost three participants for parental interruptions (refer to our previous post for details), the ones that stayed are asking that we increase the engagement days. ☺

Irony of life isn't it?

Don't forget the person who started this motion was practically dragged into the program (I can't wait for him to share his story soon).
