COFAA Statement on International Women’s Day 2025
Theme: "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress"

On this International Women’s Day 2025, the Council for Affirmative Action (COFAA) proudly stands in solidarity with women and girls across West Africa and beyond, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to gender equality, social justice, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

This year’s theme, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," underscores a powerful truth: when we invest in women’s rights, education, healthcare, and leadership, we unlock the potential for inclusive growth, stronger democracies, and a just society for all.

At COFAA, we recognize that women, especially those from vulnerable and marginalized backgrounds—including Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), LGBTIQ+ individuals, and those in underserved communities—face systemic barriers to political participation, economic opportunities, and quality healthcare. Our work continues to bridge these gaps through advocacy, capacity building, and movement strengthening to ensure that no woman is left behind.

Our Call to Action:
Invest in Women’s Leadership – Women’s voices must shape policies, governance, and decision-making processes at all levels.
Strengthen Legal Protections & Rights – We demand stronger laws and accountability mechanisms to combat gender-based violence, discrimination, and inequalities.
Ensure Access to Health & Economic Opportunities – Quality healthcare, reproductive rights, and economic empowerment programs must be prioritized for women in all their diversities.
Foster Inclusive Movements & Networks – Women’s rights are human rights. We urge collaboration among civil society, governments, and global partners to accelerate gender equality.
Celebrating Women, Driving Change
Today, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere—those who defy societal barriers, who fight for justice, and who pave the way for future generations.

COFAA remains steadfast in our vision of a West Africa where all women thrive, free from discrimination, empowered to lead, and supported by inclusive policies and structures.

Together, let’s invest in women and accelerate progress toward a more just, equitable, and inclusive world.

Le****ns* of The World Unite!

Our human rights are under attack - it's time to take action. Nearly 30 years ago, le****ns from around the world gathered at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, creating the iconic “Le***an Tent,” a physical representation of their demand for visibility, equality, and justice on the global stage. Today, as governments roll back our rights, we reclaim that legacy with a powerful q***r feminist demonstration.

Join us on March 14, 1-2 PM EST, at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, NYC, to come together for our rights and our lives! Legal observers and demonstration leads will be present for participants' safety. Come be loud, be visible, and demand a future that leaves no one behind!

*This protest is by and for le****ns, bisexual, q***r, trans, and intersex women, and nonbinary activists - allies committed to intersectional feminism are welcome. Our Le***an Tent is a big tent, and all allies are welcome!
