Theme: End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights!

Today, GANVI Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative (GANVI-WAYEI) joins the global community to celebrate every girl and reaffirm our commitment to protecting her rights, nurturing her potential, and creating opportunities for her to thrive.

Every girl deserves a childhood, an education, a voice, and the freedom to dream beyond the limitations society places on her.

Child marriage robs girls of opportunities to learn, grow, make informed choices, and pursue their aspirations. No girl should have to sacrifice her childhood or abandon her dreams because of poverty, harmful social norms, or circumstances beyond her control.

At GANVI-WAYEI, we believe that investing in girls is investing in the future of our communities. This requires more than words. It demands access to quality education, protection from violence and harmful practices, menstrual health support, mentorship, life skills, leadership opportunities, and meaningful participation in decisions that affect their lives.

We call on parents, guardians, traditional and religious leaders, governments, development partners, and communities to stand together to end child marriage, challenge harmful practices, and create environments where every girl is safe, valued, heard, and empowered.

To every girl reading this: Your dreams are valid. Your voice matters. Your future deserves a chance. You are more than the circumstances surrounding you, and you deserve the opportunity to become everything you aspire to be.

Let us move beyond celebrating girls for one day and commit to protecting their rights every day.

GANVI Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative (GANVI-WAYEI) participated in the inaugural Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Lecture held at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi State, as part of activities commemorating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day.

The lecture provided an important platform for reflection on Nigeria’s history, leadership, nation-building, and the enduring legacy of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s first Prime Minister.

GANVI-WAYEI remains committed to promoting responsible citizenship, youth participation, inclusive leadership, peacebuilding, and sustainable community development as pathways to a stronger Nigeria.

The two-day Digital Empowerment and Market Access Programme reflects GANVI Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative GANVI-WAYEI's commitment to advancing women's economic empowerment through practical skills development, digital inclusion and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
With support from the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, the initiative provided a platform for women entrepreneurs across five locations in Akwa Ibom State to strengthen their business capacity and explore opportunities within the growing digital economy.
Sustained mentorship, practical application of the skills acquired and continued access to digital business resources will be essential to translating the training into measurable improvements in business performance and financial independence.

Project Overview

Ganvi Women and Youths Empowerment Initiative (GANVI-WAYEI), with funding support from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), conducted a two-day Digital Empowerment and Market Access Programme in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, targeting 100 women entrepreneurs and micro-enterprise operators from Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, Abak and Oron.

The programme aimed to strengthen women's digital literacy, improve business management skills and expand access to market opportunities through practical technology-driven solutions.

Key Training Areas

Participants received training in five core areas:

- Social Commerce: Using digital platforms to promote products and reach wider markets.
- Mobile Graphic Design: Creating digital promotional materials using mobile devices.

- Cloud Technology: Utilizing cloud-based tools for storage and business productivity.

- Ledger Keeping: Improving financial records and basic bookkeeping practices.

- Financial Security Safeguards: Promoting safe digital transactions and protecting financial information.

The programme was designed to enhance participants' digital confidence, strengthen financial management, promote secure digital practices and create opportunities for business growth and economic independence.

By equipping women with practical digital and entrepreneurial skills, the initiative contributes to financial inclusion, livelihood resilience and women's economic empowerment across Akwa Ibom State.

The Digital Empowerment and Market Access Programme demonstrates GANVI-WAYEI's commitment to advancing women's economic participation through skills development and digital inclusion. With the support of NDDC, the initiative provided an opportunity for women entrepreneurs across five locations to strengthen their business capacity and engage with emerging opportunities in the digital economy.

GANVI Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative PARTICIPATES IN THE INAUGURATION OF THE BAUCHI STATE WOMEN AGENDA

24 September 2026 | Young Leaders Network Office, Bauchi State

Ganvi Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative (GANVI-WAYEI) participated in the inauguration of the Bauchi State Women Agenda, a platform established to strengthen women’s participation, representation, advocacy, and leadership in decision-making across the state.

The inauguration brought together women leaders, civil society actors, stakeholders, and partners to discuss the need for greater inclusion of women in governance, economic opportunities, healthcare, education, and community development.

The newly inaugurated Executive Committee was charged with promoting unity, inclusive leadership, strategic advocacy, grassroots mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, dialogue, and constructive collaboration across Bauchi State’s 20 Local Government Areas.

GANVI-WAYEI welcomes this important platform and remains committed to supporting initiatives that advance women’s rights, meaningful participation, empowerment, peacebuilding, and inclusive development.

BAUCHI STATE VSLA DRIVE – DAY ONE

Building Stronger Savings Groups. Expanding Financial Inclusion. Strengthening Communities.

GANVI Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative (GANVI-WAYEI) participated in Day One of the Bauchi State Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) Scale-Up Initiative – Drive 2, a five-day capacity-building and technical support mission bringing together the Bauchi State Agency for Sustainable Microfinance (BASMF), Civil Society Organisations, Microfinance Institutions and other implementing partners.

The initiative, supported by CARE USA, is focused on strengthening the VSLA ecosystem across Bauchi State through improved capacity, standardised approaches, reliable group data and stronger linkages between savings groups and appropriate financial services.

Day One provided an important platform for stakeholders to understand the broader objectives of the scale-up initiative and the role of CSOs in supporting financial inclusion, economic resilience and sustainable livelihoods, particularly among underserved communities.

For GANVI-WAYEI, participation in this initiative reinforces our commitment to strengthening women’s economic empowerment and community-based structures that enable individuals and groups to build financial resilience, collective responsibility and sustainable livelihoods.

As the five-day engagement continues, GANVI remains committed to learning, strengthening partnerships and translating knowledge into meaningful community impact.

BAUCHI STATE VSLA DRIVE – DAY 2 | BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITY SAVINGS GROUPS

On 22nd September 2026, GANVI Women and Youth Empowerment Initiative (GANVI-WAYEI) participated in the Bauchi State VSLA Drive held at Deno Hotel, New GRA, Bauchi. The Organisation was represented by our Head of Programme Faith Ayiba Shaibu and Finance Manager Gata Grace Garba

The session focused on the scaling up, harmonization and standardization of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) across Bauchi State. The initiative is being supported by CARE in collaboration with the Bauchi State Sustainability Microfinance Agency, with a strong emphasis on strengthening VSLA monitoring, documentation and group-level data collection.

KEY LEARNING FROM THE SESSION

A VSLA is fundamentally a membership-owned group, built around collective responsibility, transparency and shared financial participation.

The session also highlighted the essential building blocks of a functional VSLA:

Beyond savings and loans, effective VSLA structures provide an important platform for strengthening community resilience, financial inclusion, accountability, leadership and collective action.

As part of GANVI-WAYEI active participation directly with women and communities, standardized VSLA structures can provide stronger systems for monitoring progress, understanding group performance, documenting impact and identifying areas requiring additional support.

The training also reinforced an important principle of VSLA monitoring: the focus is on understanding and strengthening the group as a collective, rather than treating VSLA monitoring as a mechanism for collecting individual-level information.

GANVI-WAYEI is committed to continuously strengthening its institutional knowledge and community-based approaches so that women and communities can access practical pathways toward economic empowerment, resilience and sustainable development.
