BONU EMPOWERS 350 BADAGRY STUDENTS THROUGH BESI 4.0 SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME
Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, representing Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has awarded bursaries to 350 indigent undergraduates from Lagos State-owned universities under the Bonu Education Support Initiative (BESI), tagged "Bonu Sanwo Tinubu Bursary and Scholarship Scheme."
During the award ceremony, Hon. Bonu emphasized the importance of education in societal development. "Education is the key to unlocking the future," he stated, urging others to support educational initiatives. He also announced a monthly stipend of N50,000 for five first-class graduates to support them pending gainful employment.
Hon. Bonu also revealed that the motivation to sustain and expand the scholarship scheme was greatly inspired by the late Apex Leader and GAC member, Dr. Akinsanya Sunny Ajose, OON, who consistently reminded him of the importance of investing in education. “Dr. Ajose always emphasized that education is the greatest legacy we can give our children and that this scheme must never die,” Bonu noted, describing the late leader as a guiding voice in his public service journey.
Prof. Paul Sawa, Chairman of the BESI Scheme, highlighted the program's impact across Badagry's three councils, noting its role in alleviating financial burdens for students. "This initiative has been instrumental in supporting our students' academic pursuits," he remarked.
Prof. Henry Hunjo offered ongoing academic guidance, stressing the importance of discipline and focus in university life. He pledged to be available for assistance whenever students needed guidance in their academics.
DCG Abiodun Hundeyin shared real-life experiences to inspire students, addressing challenges in Badagry and advocating collective efforts for progress. "Our community's advancement depends on the education and empowerment of our youth," he noted.
Royal fathers, including HRM Oba Oladele Kosoko (Oniworo of Iworo), HRM Oba Oyekan Adekanmi Ilufemiloye Ajose Possi III (Alapa of Apa Kingdom), and HRM Oba Adesina Sulaimon Raji (Oniba Ekun), commended Bonu's initiative. Oba Raji Oniba, a proud support of the scheme, pledged N2 million, while Oba Adekanmi ALAPA donated N1 million, and Oba Kosoko contributed N500 thousand each to support the program's continuity.
Dignitaries present included Hon. Ade Agoro, Leader Ogabi, Hon. Dominic Dansu Omotayo, Chief Frederick Ajaneson, and Mrs. Atoyebi (LGA Woman Leader, Badagry), among others.
