Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu,
Lagos State Governor,
State House,
Alausa - Ikeja.
Mr. Governor,
APPRECIATION ON THE APPROVED LIST OF OUR MEMBERS AND APPEAL FOR CONSIDERATION OF MEMBERS UNDER SUPPRESSION CATEGORY FOR UPGRADE.
Foremost, our sincere and special gratitude goes to the Lagos State Governor, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, on the approved list of our staff upgrade recently released. This gesture is a demonstration of your commitment towards the motivation of the state's civil servants to bring out their best to the system.
Lagos State has her slogan as "State of Excellence" and the Excellence is evident in the reform that has taken place in the civil service and it will amount to an understatement to say you deserve our sincere gratitude.
Having said this, before I proceed on other germane matters, let me use this medium to congratulate you on your electoral victory in the recently conducted elections where Lagosians, once again, reposed their confidence in your leadership by returning you to the office for another term of four years. Mr. Governor, congratulations and kindly accept our best wishes.
Mr. Governor sir, you would recall the popular dictum which says "What is good for the goose is also good for the gander". It is on this note that we wish to register our observation and to implore you to use your good office to address it.
Mr. Governor sir, you may not be happy to hear that about 800 to 1000 officers are still stagnant in grade level 7 after the recent approval by the State Government because they have had their highest qualifications before gaining employment into the state's civil service. This group, as we know, is categorized as SUPPRESSION in the civil service rules and the level of Government in which they secured their employment then did not possess the power to employ them with their qualifications.
On this note, our advice and appeal to the Mr. Governor (Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu) is to give them a waiver having considered the years spent on grade level 7 and their years in service already. They are worthy products, service-oriented and result-oriented staff members that we can’t afford to lose their loyalty and commitment.
These are high-skilled manpower. Yet, they have been stagnated by a human-created regulation. As a leader whose veins are full of humanity blood running through them, we believe you can still look into this and allow humanity to have its ways. Of course, where there is a clash between a regulation and humanity, humanity should be considered, first.
This SUPRESSIVE phenomenon is not only dispirited and kills innovation and creativity, it is counter-productive.
In view of the above, we once again implore you to consider the upgrade of our affected staff members as we believe there is a lot to tap from their skills.
Thank you Mr. Governor and kindly accept the assurances of our highest regards, always.
