Act against Child Trafficking in Nigeria (AaCTING) Project...

The child champions of Girls' Power Initiative (GPI) brought the campaign against human trafficking to Evbuotubu market in Egor LGA, Benin city. The market as usual was busy with so much activities and we took advantage of the dense population to sensitize the public on the dangers of human trafficking.

The child champions displayed a playlet that drew the attention of both traders, buyers and passers by. The playlet exposed the tricks that human traffickers use to lure their victims, and also exposed some parents who deliberately give out their children to these traffickers because of greed. It further went on to teach parents never to compare the achievements of other children to their own, thereby mounting so much pressure on their children in so much that they become vulnerable to trafficking. After the playlet, the child champions went into all nooks and crannies of the market to distribute IEC materials to as many people they could reach.

After the display, some traders thanked GPI for educating the child champions and building their confidence so much that they were able to act in such a busy market. A lady told us of a child that she know that was trafficked for Prostitution and that the said child is back to her parents always on adult pampers due to the damage that was done to her while she was trafficked.

This campaign was executed by GPI with sponsorship from ECPAT FRANCE, ECPAT LUXEMBOURG and AFD.

GPI Benin trains Managers of Okomu oil company on gender issues. May Ekido, the Coordinator of GPI Benin and Dr Faith Edebor jointly facilitated topics which include: understanding gender and gender mainstreaming, Harmful masculinities, gender based violence prevention, response and access to justice. The training was well attended.

Act against Child Trafficking in Nigeria (AaCTING) project...

Girls Power Initiative (GPI) Child Champions with sponsorship from ECPAT FRANCE, ECPAT LUXEMBOURG and AFD, held a town hall meeting at the OLOMUZA PALACE In Useh community, Egor LGA, Benin City.

The town hall meeting which was facilitated by the child champions of GPI, was attended by community leaders, traders, students, and people from all walks of life. The discussions centred on child trafficking; abuse and exploitation of boys and ways to curb the menace in our society. It was a very interactive meeting as questions were asked and appropriate answers were given.

The coordinator of GPI May Ekido charged those in attendance to take the message to the larger community.

GIRLS' POWER INITIATIVE(GPI) / Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) under the Women Workers Forum (WWF)project, had a campaign with the community stakeholders of PW Community in Kubwa, Abuja, on the 27th of 2026, with the theme " Empower, Lead and Care".

The Campaign done by the WWF participants who have been in the project, drove stakeholders engagement on Women's Leadership and Decision making in the home, workplace and community. The women spoke passionately on why women should be part of Leadership and decision making, its importance especially in driving positive development.

They also talked about mental health, Hygiene and Self Care. The women were encouraged to rest when necessary, eat balanced meals, exercise and go for medical check ups. They should always check their blood pressure and sugar level as Nigerian women collapsing and dying of heart attacks is on the increase. They finished by driving conversations on SGBV in the community.

The attendees got their blood pressure checked led by the Village Head, Chief Beje Tazodayi, of Usman Ward and His wife, Rachel Tazodayi, Philemon Garba, Ward Development Community Chairman, other stakeholders (40) beneficiaries of the PW Community, Kubwa, Abuja.

This campaign was carried out by 15 women of the WWF Project, supported by the GPI, Abuja Center members of staff led by the Project Officer/ Learning Facilitator Vera Ighoraye Igbinadolor.

GIRLS' POWER INITIATIVE(GPI) in partnership with Naptip Nigeria and ICMPD took the sensitization of human trafficking activities to Ugbiyoko town hall meeting, which was mobilized by Egor ward 1 women leader MRS ALICE ARINOLA.

The town hall meeting was attended by community leaders, business men/women, clergy men and people from all works of life. The meeting started with an opening prayer which was taken by Mrs Alice Arinola. Thereafter an executive from ICMPD introduced the purpose of the meeting to those in attendance.

An officer from NAPTIP gave a lecture on what human traffickers do and how they exploit unsuspecting victims. He further introduced NAPTIP as the body the government has given the responsibility to prosecute human traffickers, and urged everyone present to report anyone suspected of human trafficking to them, and if they have anyone that has been trafficked, they can call the NAPTIP toll free line so they can work to reunite the trafficked victims back to their families in Nigeria.

GPI staff gave lectures on how to identify human traffickers. Some of the ways traffickers use is publishing adverts that mislead unsuspecting victims, and make them fall prey. Some on social media are " Free scholarship programs abroad ", " Visa sponsorship jobs abroad ", while some posters are pasted on street walls with words like " Work as sales rep in a company salary ₦200k".
They were also told of the need to befriend their children so that their children cannot be misled by anyone.

It was really an interactive meeting as questions were asked by members of the community and appropriate answers were given. Campaign materials were distributed to attendees, and they were charged with the responsibility to share the knowledge they have gained with others in their places of work, worship and even to their family members.

Together, by working with relevant stakeholders, community members, market traders, school heads, we can build a country free from the menace of human traffickers.

Today, GPI Benin in collaboration with NAPTIP, ICMPD, and a PTA executive member of Asoro grammar school took the campaign against human trafficking/exploitation to Evbuotubu market in Egor LGA, Benin city.

The market which hosts a large number of traders and buyers was very busy as usual, and we took advantage of the large population to enlighten the public on the dangers and inhumane treatment victims of human trafficking are exposed to.

We educated parents and guardians to build a cordial relationship with their children/wards, so they can be confided in when they are engaged by traffickers, as these traffickers rely on secrecy to exploit unsuspecting victims.
Together, we can build a better society where human trafficking will be fully eradicated.

GPI Benin organised a project commencement meeting with stakeholders on the 28th of August 2026 in her office in Benin City.
May Ekido the project coordinator welcomed the stakeholders and introduced the project:'Engendering Community Resilience to Human Trafficking in Edo State' The project is funded by The Resilience Fund through Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC)
The Project Officer Harrison Edobor presented the project whose main goal is to reduce the risk of re-trafficking among female survivors in Edo State.
He outlined the three strategic objectives which are:Protection and Recovery, Economic Resilience and targeted Reintegration.
May Ekido solicited for the support of Stakeholders in making the project a success and they pledged their support.

GPI Benin in collaboration with ICMPD and NAPTIP took the campaign against human trafficking to Oba market, Benin city.

The market which is one of the biggest markets in Edo state was filled with a lot of traders and buyers, and we took advantage of the high market traffick to sensitize the public on the dangers of human trafficking.

While on the campaign, we met a lot of people who were ignorant of the mode of operations of these traffickers, and we had to take time to explain the ways to identify how they operate, and gave them relevant numbers to call if they suspect anything or anyone.
The PTA executives of Emotan secondary school also joined in the campaign, and together we were able to reach a very large number of buyers and sellers. Kudos GPI。

Earlier today, we were at Akugbe community at new Benin, Benin city for a town hall meeting with community leaders, school teachers, parents and the general public, for a sensitization campaign against human trafficking.

The facilitators which came from GPI, NAPTIP and ICMPD enlightened those present on the dangers of human trafficking and adviced parents never to sell the futures of their children for promises that are not true. Parents should teach their children/wards on the importance of hard work, diligence and proper education as keys to successful lives, instead of the get rich quick schemes that endangers the lives of their children.

Some community members blamed poverty and the hard living conditions of the country as an excuse that makes human trafficker's promises attractive. But we had to sensitize them that the worst form of poverty is the lack of knowledge, and that with the proper knowledge one can lead a better life without endangering the lives of their children for promises that will never be fulfilled.

We got feedback from community members who pleaded that this sensitization should be done regularly, and should be extended to primary schools, as these traffickers are now luring pupils into this trap of trafficking.

Together, we can build a safe space for our children to thrive. Join in the fight against human trafficking by reporting suspicious activities to relevant authorities.

GAATW/WWF MEDICAL OUTREACH.

Global Alliance Against Traffick in Women (GAATW)/ Women Workers Forum (WWF) a project sponsored by GAATW and implemented by GPI. The staff of GPI and beneficiaries of the project embarked on a medical outreach/ market campaign at Agbado market, Benin city.

The topic "Stress management and burnout" Was facilitated by Mrs Precious Osasogie, where she educated the public on things to do to avoid stress, in order to lead a healthy and better life. She stated that regular medical check up and excecicse is key to keeping our body and mind in good shape to function properly.

Some of the activities carried out during the campaign was a free medical check up for the general public and a dance movement therapy (DMT), which involved all.
