Teenage pregnancy changes a life in an instant, but it does not define a person's future.

While becoming a parent at a young age often brings unexpected challenges, such as balancing education, financial responsibilities, emotional stress, and the demands of raising a child, it does not determine the course of someone's entire life. With determination, support from family, friends, schools, healthcare providers, and the community, many young parents continue their education, build successful careers, and create stable, loving homes for their children.

I was honored to participate in the two-day General Assembly of the End FGM European Network as a Senior Ambassador End FGM EU in Brussels, Belgium 4-5 June 2026

The Assembly brought together dedicated full members, friends of the network, advocates, and partners, all united in their commitment to ending female ge***al mutilation and advancing the rights of women and girls. It was an inspiring opportunity to exchange experiences, strengthen collaboration, and explore innovative strategies for creating lasting change.

I am grateful for the meaningful discussions, shared learning, and collective determination to build a future where every girl and woman can live free from violence and harmful practices.

Together, through solidarity, partnership, and advocacy, we can make a lasting impact.

At Dahtmaco, we are grateful once again for the opportunity to be invited to another prestigious university in Madrid, Spain.

The workshop was delivered to students from the Health Sciences programs.

This was a valuable opportunity for us, as educating health sciences students about female ge***al mutilation (FGM) helps prepare future professionals to recognize, treat, prevent, and advocate against this harmful practice, while also providing compassionate care to affected patients.

Teaching university students about female ge***al mutilation (FGM) is essential for academic, professional, and ethical reasons. At the university level, discussions can be more in-depth, evidence-based, and thoughtfully framed within disciplines such as global health, human rights, law, gender studies, medicine, social work, and public policy.

A comprehensive understanding of FGM equips students to contribute responsibly to prevention efforts, survivor support, and culturally informed interventions. It also promotes informed healthcare practice, ethical reasoning, gender equity, and culturally competent global engagement.

Courage isn't the absence of fear, it's acting despite it.

The International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), observed each year on 6 February, marks a moment to take stock of progress, recognize what has worked and confront the scale of what remains to be done to end this harmful practice.
An estimated 4.5 million girls, many under the age of five, are at risk of undergoing FGM. If current trends continue, 22.7 million additional girls will be affected by 2030. More than 230 million girls and women alive today have undergone FGM.

FGM is a violation of human rights and has serious, lifelong physical and mental health consequences.
