UNTIL EVERYONE IS SAFE!

On 26 June 2026, Falconscare Initiative For Women With Disabilities Empowerment (FIWDE), in partnership with Bright Horizons Advocacy Network for Person with Disabilities, visited the Kuchigoro IDP Camp, Abuja, as part of our commemoration of World Refugee Day 2026.

Guided by the message “Simple kindness for everyone; little actions can change lives,” we engaged with women, children, and other residents through conversations on health, hygiene, education, dignity, and inclusion.
We also provided essential food and hygiene items, including sanitary pads, soaps, noodles, and vegetable oil.

But beyond the materials, the most important part of the outreach was listening, hearing directly from residents about their experiences, challenges, and hopes.

Because sometimes, inclusion begins with something simple:
Showing up. Listening. Caring. Taking action.

At FIWDE, we believe no one should be forgotten because they are displaced, living in poverty, or experiencing disability.
Until everyone is safe, we keep showing up.

REPORT: Falconscare Advocates Quality Menstrual Products and Inclusive Facilities for Girls with Disabilities

The Falconscare Initiative for Women with Disabilities Empowerment has called for improved quality of menstrual products and more inclusive menstrual hygiene facilities for girls and women with disabilities in Anambra State.

The call was made by the Executive Director of Falconscare Initiative, Ms Chidinma Ajemba, during a one-day advocacy planning workshop on the domestication and implementation of the National Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management Policy in Anambra State.

The workshop, organised by the Development Centre for Orientation, Discovery and Empowerment (DeCODE) under the Menstrual Health for Girls (ME4Girls) project, with support from Rise Up Together, brought together stakeholders to discuss menstrual health challenges affecting girls in the state.

Speaking during the engagement, Ajemba stressed that menstrual health interventions should go beyond simply distributing sanitary pads, noting that the quality of menstrual products is equally important as access to them.

She called on Civil Society Organisations and other organisations implementing menstrual health programmes to ensure that sanitary pads distributed to girls are safe, suitable and of good quality.

According to her, concerns over some products circulating in school pad banks make it necessary for organisations to pay greater attention to the quality of menstrual products being provided to girls.

The Falconscare Executive Director also drew attention to the specific challenges faced by girls with disabilities, particularly in accessing appropriate Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities.

She emphasised that accessibility goes beyond the construction of ramps, explaining that accessible menstrual hygiene facilities must also provide privacy, safety, functionality and ease of use for persons with different disabilities.

Ajemba called for disability inclusion to be deliberately integrated into menstrual health programmes and policies, stressing that the needs and lived experiences of girls with disabilities must be considered in the planning and implementation of interventions.

She further noted that menstrual health is closely connected to dignity, education and inclusion, and that no girl should face barriers to education or personal dignity because of menstruation or disability.

As part of the outcome of the workshop, Falconscare Initiative was nominated as a member of the Technical Working Committee established to review the National Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management Policy and support its adoption and implementation in Anambra State.

The workshop also witnessed the formation of the Anambra Menstrual Health Advocacy Coalition (AMHAC), bringing stakeholders together to strengthen coordinated advocacy around menstrual health and hygiene management in the state.

For Falconscare Initiative, the engagement reinforces the organisation's commitment to advancing the rights, dignity and inclusion of women and girls with disabilities, particularly in areas where disability and menstrual health intersect.
