The drums are louder, the songs are stronger, and the spirit of service is alive.

Today marks the Opening Ceremony of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State Branch Youth Wing Super Camp—where ordinary young people gather to become extraordinary volunteers, united by humanity, service, leadership, and hope.

May every session inspire, every friendship strengthen our bond, every lesson shape a better volunteer, and every moment become a memory worth keeping.

SITUATION REPORT

At about 1:00 a.m. on 28 July 2026, a building known as Elite Lodge, located in Amaokpala and occupied primarily by students, collapsed.

Members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State Branch (Aguata/Orumba Divisions) are currently working alongside the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in an ongoing search and rescue operation to locate and rescue trapped occupants.

As of the latest update, five persons have been rescued. Three were rescued alive and evacuated to Amaku Teaching Hospital for medical treatment, while two were recovered deceased and were confirmed dead by the attending NEMA doctor.

Rescue operations are still ongoing, as it is believed that additional persons may remain trapped beneath the debris.

Currently, Nigerian Red Cross Society volunteers from the Anambra State Branch are on the ground supporting the emergency response. The team will resume operations at the incident site this morning.

JOINT OUTREACH VISIT TO THE REHABILITATION CENTRE FOR THE DISABLED, OLD AND TRAMPS (RECDOT), OZUBULU
On Sunday, 19th July 2026, the Nigerian Red Cross Society CHS Detachment, in collaboration with the Auwal Shanono Foundation (ASF), conducted a humanitarian outreach to the Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled, Old and Tramps (RECDOT) in Ozubulu, Anambra State.

The team was received by the centre's management and taken on a tour of the facility, where interactions were held with residents and caregivers to assess their welfare and immediate needs. Key observations included inadequate bedding, shortage of mobility aids, overcrowded dormitories, and limited healthcare resources.

Relief materials, including items from the Red Cross Clothing Drive and other donated items, were presented to the management in support of the residents.

The management expressed appreciation for the visit and appealed for sustained support through regular humanitarian interventions, food and non-food donations, and vocational empowerment assistance.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both organizations to supporting vulnerable populations and promoting the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross, particularly Humanity and Voluntary Service.

Nigerian Red Cross Society Anambra State Branch joined the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on a strategic site assessment in Orumba South Local Government Area on Thursday, 2 July 2026.

The assessment was conducted to evaluate the impact of persistent rainfall, which has triggered severe erosion, landslides, and windstorms across affected communities. The team visited Ugwunano, Ugwuagbada, and Umuizo communities in Umunze.

The exercise was led by Mr. Echezona Ike, Personal Assistant to the Orumba South LGA Mayor on Revenue and Special Duties. The NEMA delegation was led by Mr. Nwokike Obinna, with support from Mrs. Ewudo Florence, Divisional Coordinator of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Orumba South Division, alongside other emergency response partners.

The assessment is expected to inform appropriate interventions aimed at reducing disaster risks and supporting affected communities.

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State Branch, on the 27 June 2026, held its Second Quarter Branch Executive Committee (BEC) Meeting. The meeting was presided over by the Branch Chairman, Prof. Charity Ifeyinwa Emelie.

During the meeting, key branch matters were deliberated upon, with strategic decisions taken to guide the activities and priorities of the Branch in the next quarter.

The Branch Coordinators were commended for their dedication and encouraged to sustain their good work. Challenges facing the Branch were also discussed, with practical measures outlined to address them.

The meeting concluded on a positive and enthusiastic note, with members reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the humanitarian activities of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Anambra State.

The management staff of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State Branch, organized a special Children’s Day outreach program on 28th May, 2026, to commemorate the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.

The event was proudly sponsored by the management staff of the branch under the leadership of the Branch Secretary, Engr. Kingsley Okoye KSM. The memorable occasion was also graced by the presence of the Branch Chairman, Prof. Charity Ifeyinwa Emelie, alongside all management staff members of the branch.

The outreach was organized with the aim of showing love, care, and compassion to vulnerable children while creating a joyful and memorable atmosphere for them. During the event, the management team cooked and served meals to the children, creating a warm environment filled with happiness and togetherness.

The children participated actively in several fun-filled activities including singing of poems, spelling bee competitions, dancing, and other entertaining exercises. Their excitement and joyful expressions reflected the impact and success of the program.
The celebration provided an opportunity for the children to feel loved, appreciated, and supported by the Red Cross family. It also reinforced the humanitarian values of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in promoting humanity, care, and service to vulnerable groups within society.

Indeed, the event was a memorable and impactful celebration for both the children and the volunteers who participated.
