UNIZIK MANAGEMENT APPROVES 3 MONTHS SUSPENSION OF PROF. IFEANYI ODINYE WITH HALF SALARY AT FIRST INSTANCE, REFERS CHIKAMSO FAVOUR OKECHUKWU TO STUDENTS EXAMINATION MISCONDUCT PANEL

The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie has approved the suspension of Prof. Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye, a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies for a period of three (3) months with half salary on the first instance, following the recommendations of the 6- man Special Investigative Panel who submitted their preliminary report on Friday, 21st August 2026.

The Student involved in the unfortunate incident, Chikamso Favour Okechukwu, according to the directive of the Vice Chancellor has been referred to the student’s examination misconduct committee

The Vice Chancellor has also extended the duration of the committee for another two weeks to enable the team complete their assignment and address in full, their five point terms of reference.

The Panel, Chaired by Prof. Emmanuel Obidimma, Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, in their preliminary report which dealt on two issues out of the five for determination , indicted Prof Odinye for contravening Section 5.8.3 of the General and Academic Regulations (GAR) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University by failing to not only record and submit the case of examination misconduct against Chikamso Favour Okechukwu on the prescribed Examination Misconduct Report Form but also gave back the offending phone recovered during the examination to the student on the same day in total disregard to section 5.8.1(iv) of the GAR.

Other three issues for determination by the committee which shall be addressed within the two weeks extended time frame included “whether there was sexual harassment, identities of the persons involved in the assault meted to Prof. Odinye and whether there was any incident of kidnapping in the matter”.

The committee members are expected to conclude their findings with recommendations to the Vice Chancellor before a final verdict including possible criminal prosecution is initiated.

ANAMBRA TRANSPORT MINISTRY MOURNS CHIEF JONATHAN OKPAGU OF NISE

‎The Anambra State Ministry of Transport has mourned Chief Jonathan Ngozi Okpagu, Omeluora Nise, a respected stakeholder who advanced transportation development in the state.
‎
‎Chief Okpagu, 78, died after years of dedicated service and community leadership. Burial rites began on, 19th August, in Nise with a Service of Songs.
‎
‎Proceedings continued Thursday, 20th August, with a funeral service at St. Peter and Paul Anglican Church, Nise, followed by interment and condolence visits.
‎
‎Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Ibuzo, led ministry officials including Permanent Secretary, Engr. Michael Obiekwe, to honour the deceased and commiserate with the family.
‎
‎Commissioner Ibuzo described the death as “an irreparable loss.” He offered condolences and prayed for the peaceful repose of Chief Okpagu’s soul.
‎
‎Engr. Obiekwe eulogised him as a distinguished stakeholder whose support helped grow the transport sector and left a legacy worthy of honour.
‎
‎The burial attracted dignitaries including former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi; Senator Victor Umeh; and the Traditional Ruler of Nise, Igwe Romanus Iloh, among other personalities.
‎
‎The Ministry commiserated with the Okpagu family and honoured Chief Okpagu’s service, leadership, and contributions to Anambra’s transport development.
‎
‎They prayed God grants the family strength and comfort as they remember his impact on community and state development.
‎

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has commenced online applications for intra-university transfer for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The opportunity is open to undergraduate students who wish to transfer from their current Faculty, Department or Programme to another within the University.

Interested students are required to apply online only through https://changeofcourse.unizik.edu.ng, using their registration number/email and student portal password. Applicants should carefully verify their academic records, select their preferred Department, state their reason for the transfer and complete the prescribed online payment before submission.

Applications will pass through the stipulated approval process, including the relevant Heads of Department and Deans, Registrar, DVC (Academics) and Vice-Chancellor.

Deadline: Friday, 18th September, 2026.

Students are advised to apply early, ensure that all information supplied is accurate, and monitor their applications online.

‎The Children, $exual and Gender-based Violence Court sitting at the High Court of Awka, Anambra State, has convicted and sentenced a 27-year-old final-year Mass Communication student, Wisdom Edem, to 25 years, five years and five years imprisonment, respectively for rap€, $exual abuse and inflicting injury on a 10-year-old girl.

‎In the Charge No. A/3C/2024, obtained by our correspondent in Awka, on Friday, the court was presided over by Justice Peace Otti, on Wednesday.
‎
‎Justice Otti found the defendant guilty on a three-count Charge No. A/3C/2024: The State vs. Wisdom Edem.
‎
‎The three-count charge read, “Count 1: Rap€, contrary to Section 34(2) of the Child’s Rights Law of Anambra State, 2004
‎
‎“Count 2: Sexual Abuse and Exploitation – contrary to Section 35(2) of the Child’s Rights Law.
‎
‎“Count 3: Inflicting Physical Injury – contrary to Section 4(1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, Anambra State, 2017.
‎
‎The prosecution was led by the Principal State Counsel of the Anambra State Ministry of Justice, Chinelo Akorah, who called six witnesses and tendered compelling documents, including the confessional statement of the defendant and the medical report.
‎
‎The charge sheet read, “PW1, the 10-year-old victim, told the Court in vivid detail how the Defendant deceived her into coming to his house for a ‘comedy skit’.
‎
‎“The victim said she had acted with the defendant and others before, so she went with her younger sister. On arrival, the Defendant sent the younger sister home to get a change of clothes for PW1, then asked her to go into his room where ‘others were waiting’.
‎
‎“Inside, she met no one. He locked the door, defiled her, and she began to bleed. The medical doctor who examined her that same day testified in court and confirmed the bleeding and injuries
‎
‎“The Defendant, in his defence, denied any wrongdoing and claimed the victim seduced him.”
‎
‎However, the Court dismissed his claim that the child “seduced him.”
‎
‎He alleged that the girl removed his clothes, inserted his p***s into her va**na and screamed.
‎
‎He also claimed she told him she was 14 and had a boyfriend.

JUST IN: Governor Soludo Announces Temporary Statewide Lockdown for Sanitation Exercise

Governor Charles Soludo has declared a temporary lockdown across Anambra State on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

The restriction is to facilitate a compulsory statewide sanitation and waste evacuation exercise aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment across the state.

In his announcement, the governor emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility, stating that “the environment is our existential threat.” He urged all residents to fully participate by cleaning their surroundings and ensuring proper waste disposal.

Residents are encouraged to comply with the directive as the state works together to maintain a cleaner and safer Anambra.

Let’s keep our state clean. Normal activities resume by 10:00 AM.

Arraignment of Alleged Fake Pastors at Awka High Court: Attorney General Leads Prosecution Team

Eight individuals accused of posing as pastors and engaging in fraudulent religious activities were on Friday, June 5, 2026, arraigned before the High Court in Awka, Anambra State.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Anambra State, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, personally led the team of prosecutors in the case.
The defendants were arrested following investigations into allegations of deceit, obtaining money by false pretence, staging fake miracles, making false representations, and exploiting unsuspecting members of the public in their various places of worship, contrary to the Homeland Security Laws of Anambra State.

According to the prosecution, the suspects were apprehended after making video-recorded confessional statements detailing their alleged involvement in the crimes.

Speaking after the arraignment, the Attorney General stated that the offences attract a penalty of up to six years imprisonment or an option of a ₦20 million fine upon conviction.
He noted that the accused persons were arrested alongside individuals alleged to have aided the commission of the offences. He added that the prosecution would serve as a deterrent to others who exploit vulnerable people for personal enrichment under the guise of religious practices.

The defendants are:
-Ndubuisi Nnachukwu – Omega Dominion Ministry

-Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu – Cloud of Glory Prophetic Ministry

-Bishop Emeka Nwankpa – Chapel of Faith Ministry

-Peter Chukwu – Messiah Adoration Ministry

-Chinedu Egwuonwu – Citadel of Grace Ministry

-Emele Nnachukwu – Jehovah Mightier Than All Ministry
Miracle Iruoma – City of Power Ministry

-Chukwukadibia Oguama – Land of Testimony Adoration Ministry

The charges border on felony, conspiracy, deceit, obtaining by false pretence, staging fake miracles and healings, and unlawfully exploiting members of the public by falsely claiming to possess supernatural powers which they allegedly knew they did not have. The prosecution further alleged that the defendants used paid individuals to stage miracles and testimonies between March 2025 and April 2026, thereby misleading unsuspecting worshippers.
All eight defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The matter was adjourned to June 15, 2026, for hearing, after which the court rose.

Behold Prophet Ndubuisi unachukwu, popularly known as Obere Agu Jesus.

He is the founder and general overseer of Omega Dominion ministry situated here in Anambra State, with a few branches too.

Only God knows how many people he has deceived with his fake miracles and ministry..

For those who may be asking "How sure" are questions, Ndubuisi unachukwu and others have confessed to the crime..

They are currently remanded in prison until 15th of June when the court will hear their case.
