Before the introduction of the British administration system, there was already an organized Benin administration system.

The Great Benin Kingdom operated with a well-structured political system.

There were:
• Uzama nobles
• Palace chiefs
• Town chiefs
• Organized guild leaders
• Clear hierarchy under the Oba

This was governance with checks, balances, and ceremonial authority.

Power was centralized but regulated. Decisions passed through councils. The palace functioned as a political engine, not just a spiritual seat.

That level of structure attracts debate today because it mirrors statecraft.

It was not chaotic.
It was orderly.

History becomes controversial only when it was powerful.
