A solemn yet vibrant moment marked the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, as Nigeria's elite gathered to pay tribute to the nation's fallen heroes. The Wreaths Laying Ceremony was a poignant highlight, where dignitaries and esteemed guests honoured the sacrifices of those who gave their all for the country's peace and security.
Among the distinguished attendees were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, Minister of Defence Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), Chief of Defence Staff Gen Olufemi Oluyede, Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and Service Chiefs including Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Waheedi Shaibu, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. The NOWA National President, Mrs. Aisha Idi Abbas, led a delegation of members, alongside widows of fallen heroes and their families.
The ceremony was a colorful display of respect and gratitude, as wreaths were laid at the cenotaph. The Last Post was sounded, and a minute of silence was observed in honour of the departed heroes. Three volleys were fired, and pigeons were released, symbolizing peace and freedom.
As we remember the sacrifices of our fallen heroes, we pray that their souls may rest in perfect peace, and their families find comfort and solace in this moment of remembrance. May their legacy inspire us to cherish and defend our nation's peace and security.
