Apapa Ports International Seafarers' Drop-in Welfare Centre was commissioned on September 17, 2009, by the former Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Mallam Abdulsalam Abubakar. The Centre is a 40ft container house situated beside Apapa Control Tower, Bulnose, Apapa Port, Lagos. The Centre is a project conceptualised and managed by National Seafarers Welfare Board of Nigeria and funded

by the ITF Seafarers Trust, London to enable visiting crew to the Port have immediate contact with their families, friends and relations back home without necessarily going outside the Port. The page was created to aid the centre in reaching out to other seafarers online...

The Centre is being sustained by the generosity of ITF Seafarers Trust, London and National Seafarers Welfare Board of Nigeria with the support of NIMASA, NPA and other stakeholders. At the Centre, seafarers can find different services ranging from Recreation, Internet, Telephone, Transport service, TV, Barbecue, Happy Hour Party, Industrial/Dispute Resolution, Counseling, Books/Magazines, Souvenirs, etc.

The ITF condemns the horrific killing of civilian seafarers and ongoing attacks against maritime workers in the escalating war in Iran and the Middle East.

Alongside the Joint Negotiating Group, the ITF has upgraded the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf to a Warlike Operations Area. This activates much needed protections and compensation for seafarers working in the war zone.

Seafarers play a critical role in keeping global trade moving, often working in difficult and sometimes dangerous environments. Your safety and wellbeing matter.

🌍 Key Safety Tips for Seafarers Operating in High-Risk Areas
✔ Monitor maritime security updates before entering high-risk waters/areas
✔ Avoid hostile regions and hotspots where possible
✔ Follow your vessel’s Ship Security Plan and ISPS procedures
✔ Maintain communication with your company and reporting centres
✔ Watch out for suspicious vessels or unusual maritime activity
✔ Support fellow crew members and report safety concerns immediately
