*PRESS BRIEF BY ANAM INITIATIVE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ADA AKATAKA FOUNDATION*
ANAM Initiative, in partnership with Ada Akataka Foundation, stands in solidarity with Umuada Umuenwelum and the bereaved family in demanding truth, accountability, and dignity for Late Chisom.
This matter extends beyond one family’s grief. It raises serious concerns regarding maternal care, post-death handling, institutional accountability, and the dignity owed to women both in life and in death.
In light of the explanations presented regarding the visible bodily concerns observed by the family, we call for a full investigation into all medical and mortuary processes connected to this case.
If the reported injuries and bodily concerns did not originate from family or spouse-related actions, then all institutions and personnel involved in the handling of the deceased must be properly investigated.
We specifically call on the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and relevant authorities to investigate the handling of women’s bodies in medical and mortuary facilities, and to strengthen systems that protect women from indignity, negligence, abuse, or improper post-death practices.
A woman who died in the process of bringing life into the world deserved protection, dignity, and responsible care.
We demand truth for Chisom, accountability where necessary, and stronger protection mechanisms for all women.
