As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day on June 12, the Kano Hypertension Advocacy Initiative (KHAI) calls on the Kano State Government, Local Government Chairmen, development partners, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to strengthen investments in hypertension prevention, early detection, treatment, and control across the state.

Democracy is meaningful when citizens have access to quality healthcare and the opportunity to live healthy and productive lives. Hypertension remains a leading risk factor for heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and premature death, yet many people remain undiagnosed or unable to access affordable care.

KHAI urges stakeholders to prioritize sustainable funding for hypertension services at primary healthcare facilities, ensure the availability of essential medicines, support community awareness campaigns, and strengthen policies that promote healthier lifestyles.

Together, let us build a healthier Kano where every citizen can enjoy the dividends of democracy through improved health and wellbeing.

Healthy Citizens, Strong Democracy!
