NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN)

IKOSI–EJINRIN BRANCH

Yesterday, we held our first official familiarization meeting with the newly appointed Supervisor for Youth, Hon. Olamiji Ajewole, and the Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Hon. Gbenga Adekoya. This engagement marks a significant step towards strengthening youth inclusion in governance within Ikosi–Ejinrin Local Council Development Area.

The meeting provided a strategic platform to establish a productive working relationship between the youth constituency and the newly appointed Cabinet members. It also created an avenue to align efforts with the Department of Agriculture, Youth, and Social Services in driving impactful, people-oriented development.

During the deliberations, we proudly acknowledged and commended the Executive Chairman, Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to youth inclusion.

His deliberate decision to entrust young and capable individuals with key leadership roles, particularly within the youth structure, is not only commendable but also a clear demonstration of progressive and inclusive governance. This administration has undoubtedly set a benchmark for meaningful youth participation in leadership and decision-making processes.

Furthermore, the Supervisor and the Special Adviser on Youth and Sports reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively with youth and youth organizations to deliver tangible results and record remarkable success within the administration. This assurance signals a new era of collaboration, accountability, and shared responsibility in advancing the collective interests of our community.

As the umbrella body for all youth organizations, the NYCN Ikosi–Ejinrin Branch remains resolute, mobilized, and ready to partner with this administration to ensure that the dividends of democracy are felt across all sectors, particularly among young people, who represent the strength and future of our society.

On Thursday, 13th November 2025, as the Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikosi-Ejinrin Branch, I led our delegation to the closing ceremony of the Lagos Police Youth Dialogue 2025, held at the Anchor Event Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

The programme, organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, brought together several notable dignitaries, including the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende; HRM Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, CON, the Oniru of Iru Kingdom; the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Moshood Lawal; Dr. Muiz Banire, and other distinguished stakeholders.

The Lagos Police Youth Dialogue 2025 served as an important platform for strengthening the relationship between young people and the Nigeria Police Force through meaningful conversation, shared perspectives, and collaborative engagement, all geared toward enhancing peace, trust, and security across communities in Lagos State.

A major highlight of the event was the proposal by the Lagos State Chairman of NYCN, Engr. *Day 28 - Leadership Advocacy on "Youth in Politics: Advocating for Inclusion, Recognition, and Representation in Governance*

In today's rapidly evolving world, the need for active youth participation in politics has never been more critical. Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are vital agents of change today. Engaging youth in political processes is essential for fostering a healthy democracy.

Youth make up a significant portion of the global population, yet our voices are often marginalized in decision-making processes.
It is crucial to recognize that young people bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by their communities.

Youth have the vision and passion to drive meaningful change!!!

Weekend Experience at the Maiden NYCN Local Branch Coordinators’ Exchange Retreat

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of participating in the Maiden National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Local Branch Coordinators’ Exchange Retreat, themed “A New Journey,” held at Mokland Hotel, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The event brought together coordinators from various local branches across Lagos State to foster collaboration, share best practices, and equip participants with leadership tools necessary to address contemporary youth challenges.

The retreat underscored the vital role of youth leadership in shaping Nigeria’s future. Key deliberations emphasized inclusivity, innovation, and unwavering commitment to community service. We departed with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to drive positive change within our respective local branches.

The retreat concluded with an excursion to the iconic Olumo Rock, where participants explored the rich historical and cultural heritage of Ogun State, a memorable experience that beautifully complemented the retreat’s theme of reflection and growth.

I sincerely appreciate the state leadership of NYCN, the facilitators, and the planning committee for their dedication and hard work in making this maiden edition a resounding success.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2025!

Today we celebrate International Youth Day (IYD) 2025, marked under the inspiring theme: “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.” This year’s commemoration underscores the unique role of young people in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities that directly impact lives.

The youth represent the strength, energy, and hope of our society. They are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are active change-makers today, contributing to the realisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovation, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.

Let's keep believing, keep striving, and keep taking bold steps. The challenges may be great, but your ideas, energy, and courage are greater. Together, we can shape a future that is not only sustainable but also inclusive and prosperous for all.
