NSIT IBOM POLITICAL LEADERSHIP: A CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY, INTEGRITY AND DEVELOPMENT-CENTRED GOVERNANCE

There comes a defining moment in the life of every people when honest reflection becomes a necessity, when questions can no longer be postponed, and when silence is no longer an act of wisdom but a betrayal of posterity. For Nsit Ibom, that moment has come. The future of our dear local government area must not be surrendered to personality cults, sectional interests or political convenience. What this time demands are courageous voices, awakened consciences and a brand of leadership anchored on ethical clarity and an unshakable commitment to development. It is for this reason we must boldly ask: should we continue to chase personality over transparency, division over integrity or selfishness over substance?

Nsit Ibom stands at a critical juncture, not just politically but morally. Years ago, in collaboration with like-minded young patriots, we launched the Nsit Ibom Arise Forum, not as a platform for political noise but as a vision to galvanise our people towards a developmental renaissance. Our aim was simple: to reclaim the streets of Nsit Ibom from the grip of underdevelopment and political marginalisation. Then, our local government was an abandoned space on the map of governance. Under the administration of the PDP at the time, led by the late His Excellency, Rtd. Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, promises were made but development was denied. Communities remained in shadows, our infrastructure decayed, and our people wandered in silence.

Now, over four years later, the tides have changed. We have a Governor from our federal constituency. This is not just a political victory; it is a divine opportunity. It is a platform upon which the soul of Nsit Ibom’s future can be built. However, this opportunity must not be squandered by individuals who seek to decorate themselves with the ornamental trappings of power while doing nothing to empower their people. Leadership is not a costume. It is a call to serve, to build and to leave a legacy of substance and progress.

What Nsit Ibom needs at this moment is a political leadership founded on ethical consciousness, one that does not see political office as a reward for loyalty but as a sacred duty to the people. We need leaders whose ambitions are not rooted in self-glory but in the collective progress of our people. Leaders who are transparent, who consult widely and who prioritise development over division.

It is critical that the political ship of Nsit Ibom is not hijacked by egocentric actors whose only contribution is political posturing and community tension. The power at stake must be used to lay down roads, build schools, transform healthcare, empower youths, support farmers and restore dignity to the grassroots. This power is not a trophy to be flaunted but a tool to build legacies that generations unborn will remember.

We cannot afford the cancer of grandstanding or political violence. We must remember that no community thrives in the absence of peace. The streets of Nsit Ibom must become grounds for education, enterprise and empowerment, not for protests, cultism or thuggery. Power must be detached from gangsterism. It must become synonymous with vision, accountability and purpose-driven leadership.

Also, we must come to terms with our internal political reality. Nsit Ibom is a dual-bloc local government. There are interests, identities and stakeholders from both sides of the divide. To attempt a political domination by one bloc is to sow seeds of distrust and division. Equitable power sharing is not just a gesture of fairness, it is a strategic imperative for unity and development. It fosters inclusiveness, deepens trust and mobilises the strengths of both sides for a unified Nsit Ibom agenda.

It is time to call all stakeholders to the table, not to fight for space but to build a system where everyone has a place. The time has come for disgruntled stakeholders to sheath their swords. Let us lay aside bitterness, political grudges and ambition without direction. Let us unite under the banner of peace and progress. Our people deserve better. Our children deserve a future. Nsit Ibom deserves a new narrative.

We must build bridges, not barricades. We must turn our energies into action and our conflicts into conversations. Let us move from the politics of manipulation to the politics of mobilisation. From personal interest to people-oriented leadership. From division to development.

The era of using Nsit Ibom as a chessboard for external interests must end. We must protect our identity, elevate our values and insist on leadership that is transparent, accountable and development-driven. Nsit Ibom must arise, not just in name but in substance. Let every village, every ward, every youth, every elder know this: the future of our land depends on the choices we make today.

Let this be the season where peace reigns, where leaders lead with integrity and where all of us - stakeholders, politicians, elders, youths and women - rise together with one voice to say: Nsit Ibom must develop. Let power return to purpose and purpose return to the people. Let history mark this season as the turning point, when we chose truth over tribe, substance over selfishness and development over division.

Together, let us build a new Nsit Ibom. A land where leadership is ethical, progress is visible and every citizen feels the impact of governance.

The time is now. The future is ours. Let us lead with light.
