Ekiti State AGILE in collaboration with NISD commemorates Menstrual Hygiene Day

Today, Ekiti State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, (AGILE) and New Initiative For Social Development made another history as they jointly sensitized not less than 300 secondary school Girls in commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day in Ekiti State.

At the programme, the Secondary school Girls were taught the importance of Menstrual Hygiene with special highlight of how Menstruation is a critical issue that causes girls to be absent from school, hence the safe space is very particular about encouraging girls to be Proud and Confident about their periods and to learn how to maintain proper hygiene always and especially during their menstruation.

The key objective of AGILE is to ensure completion of secondary education for girls by improving enrollment and retention of girls in schools which is being achieved under different components; safe space inclusive.

Safe Space for girls serves as an enabling environment for the girls to learn life skills, discuss personal and social issues, build self confidence, and access mentorship and psychosocial support.

Across 198 schools, girls in safe space have learnt Life Skills, Gender Based Violence, Climate Change, and Adolescent Health.

All the sessions facilitated by various stakeholders on Menstrual Hygiene Management attracted great responses from the girls present as they discussed freely as it affects them personally.

New Initiative For Social Development in the course of the week was at the YIAGA Africa's roundtable on the Process & Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT) methodology ahead of the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election. The meeting brought together CSOs, media partners, and election stakeholders to discuss election observation plans and collaboration.

Overall, the meeting emphasized collaborative election observation, credible reporting, and proactive monitoring of potential risks to ensure a transparent and peaceful electoral process.

New Initiative For Social Development was glad to have been part of the stakeholders actively participated in Terre des Hommes Stakeholders Coordination and Inter-Agency Meeting on Child Protection in Ondo State.

The meeting served as a strategic platform for government agencies, development partners, child protection actors, and civil society organizations to strengthen collaboration, share updates on ongoing interventions, improve referral pathways, and coordinate efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable children and promoting their well-being.

During the meeting, our State Project Officer, Mrs. Patrick Adedoyin, highlighted the organization’s ongoing social protection interventions under the Act Naija! Project co-funded by European Union in Nigeria across Akure North, Ifedore, and Ilaje Local Government Areas of Ondo State.

She emphasized the project’s commitment to promoting inclusive social protection policies, increasing public awareness of social protection rights and entitlements, strengthening community participation, and ensuring that vulnerable groups have improved access to government social protection services.

While reaffirming the NISD’s commitment to working closely with government institutions, development partners, and fellow CSOs to strengthen child protection systems, promote children’s rights, and enhance access to quality social services for vulnerable children and households. He noted that collaboration among stakeholders remains critical to achieving sustainable outcomes in both social protection and child protection programming.

Act Naija! Exposes Ekiti Residents to Healthcare, Agricultural Opportunities

Residents of Ago Aduloju Community in Ekiti State have been sensitized to various government social protection programmes under the ACT Naija Project aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable groups and promoting community development.

The outreach programme which took place in the course of the week under the Act Naija!-Civil Society Action to Strengthen Social Protection in Nigeria was co-funded by the European Union in collaboration with Bread for the World, the African Network for New Environment and Economic Justice and Initiative for Social Development (NISD).

The event attracted about 50 participants, including youths, men, women, community leaders, and persons living with disabilities.

Speaking, the Legal Officer of the New Initiative for Social Development highlighted the role of the Ministry of Women Affairs in supporting women and widows, as well as addressing cases of sexual and gender-based violence.

The officer further enlightened participants on available healthcare opportunities, including free malaria treatment, immunisation for children, and medical support for pregnant women.

She noted further that ACT Naija! Project, implemented by NISD and co-funded by the European Union across different 7 states aimed at improving public awareness of government interventions and social protection programmes.

Some participants commended the outreach, describing it as timely, informative, and beneficial in helping residents better understand opportunities available in healthcare, agriculture, and economic support initiatives.

EU- Funded ACT Naija Project Sensitises Ibulesoro Community on Social Protection Benefits, charge them to take advantage of the programmes

Residents of Ibulesoro Community in Ondo State have been urged to take advantage of government social protection programmes by ensuring their enrollment in the State Social Register, a key requirement for accessing various intervention schemes designed for vulnerable households.

The call was made during a community sensitisation and outreach programme organized under the ACT Naija! – Civil Society Action to Strengthen Social Protection in Nigeria Project, being implemented by a consortium of Brot für die Welt, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) and the New Initiative for Social Development (NISD)), with funding support from the European Union.

The outreach which aims at creating awareness on available social protection and safety-net programmes while educating residents on the importance of the social register in identifying vulnerable individuals, including women, youths, the elderly and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), for government interventions.

Speaking at the event which took place on Tuesday , May 26th, 2026, NISD Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Manager, Mr. Olusegun Ojo, described Ibulesoro as fortunate to be among the communities benefiting from the project, noting that the initiative was specifically designed to improve access to social protection programmes for vulnerable populations.

According to him, the intervention is not a handout but a structured mechanism to empower citizens and facilitate their access to government support schemes.

At the event, the State Coordinator of the State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU), Barr. Bankole Olaoluwa ably represented by Mrs. Clementina Oyegunwa disclosed that the State Social Register is currently expanding to accommodate more eligible households across communities.

She urged residents to cooperate with officials during registration exercises and ensure they make themselves available whenever community engagement activities are scheduled.

New Initiative For Social Development joins millions of people around the globe in felicitating with all our Muslim Brothers and Sisters all over the world.
