In commemoration of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, as a member of cpnekitichapter Child Protection Network (CPN), we took our advocacy directly to the community with a lively awareness outreach at Okesa Market in Ado-Ekiti.
During the campaign, we engaged buyers, sellers, and passersby on the urgent dangers threatening children's right to learn. We highlighted pressing issues such as the alarming abduction and harassment of students and teachers, the deliberate destruction and vandalism of school facilities, insecurity and violence that disrupt safe access to education, and the devastating long-term impact that school attacks have on a child's future.
To effectively safeguard our children and secure our schools, we must take decisive action. This includes strengthening school infrastructure by implementing physical security measures like perimeter fencing and warning systems around vulnerable institutions. We must also enforce policy frameworks such as the Safe Schools Declaration to ensure educational facilities remain zones of peace.
Furthermore, enhancing community vigilance through active collaboration between local security agencies, community members, and school authorities is critical for monitoring and reporting suspicious activities.
Finally, we must prioritize psychosocial support by providing prompt trauma care and rehabilitation for affected children and teachers to restore a safe learning environment.
As an organization, we remains deeply committed to defending the rights and safety of every child. We firmly believe that safe learning environments are non-negotiable for child development, and we call on all community members, leaders, and stakeholders to join forces in keeping our schools secure.
