*Falegan Congratulates Adeleke on Re-Election, Describes Osun Poll as Triumph of the People*
Former Accord Party governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi David Falegan, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the state’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a “triumph of the people” and a strong endorsement of his administration.
Falegan said Adeleke’s re-election represented a clear and unmistakable mandate from the people of Osun State and a validation of what he described as people-oriented governance.
According to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
Falegan said the margin was a reflection of the confidence the people had in Adeleke’s leadership.
“The margin of 66,252 votes is not accidental. It is the direct result of a government that has connected with the grassroots, put food on the table, improved infrastructure and made governance feel more human and accessible,” he said.
He stressed that the victory belonged first and foremost to the people of Osun State, who, according to him, demonstrated courage and determination in exercising their democratic rights.
“This victory belongs to the market women, the farmers, the students, the civil servants, the artisans and every Osun son and daughter who came out to vote. The people have spoken, and their voice must be respected,” Falegan stated.
The former Ekiti governorship candidate, who contested the June 18, 2022 election on the platform of the Accord Party, said the Osun result also reinforced the importance of people-centred politics, humility and accessibility in leadership.
“As someone who contested under the umbrella of Accord Party, I am particularly proud that the values we campaigned for in Ekiti are being demonstrated and rewarded in Osun. The people want leaders who are close to them. They want leaders who listen, understand their struggles and work for them,” he said.
Falegan also commended the people of Osun State for remaining steadfast despite what he described as alleged intimidation and violence reported in the build-up to the election.
He said the electorate demonstrated that political power ultimately belongs to the people and that citizens have the right to freely choose the leaders they want.
“I am particularly proud of the good people of Osun State. Despite the alleged intimidation and violence before the election, they remained firm, courageous and determined. They stood their ground and chose the candidate they believed in. That is the beauty of democracy,” he said.
Falegan further commended INEC for what he described as improvements in the electoral process and praised security agencies, including the Police, DSS and NSCDC, for their roles in maintaining peace during the election.
He also extended a message of goodwill to Oyebamiji, the APC and all other contestants, urging them to accept the outcome and support efforts aimed at advancing the interests of Osun State.
According to him, the election should not deepen political divisions but should provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to come together and work for the development of the state.
Falegan urged Governor Adeleke to use his second term to consolidate his achievements, unite the people of Osun and pursue policies that will create greater opportunities for young people and vulnerable citizens.
He specifically urged the governor to focus on youth employment through technology, skills acquisition and agribusiness; strengthen the state’s economy by supporting farmers, artisans and small businesses; and continue to lead with humility and inclusiveness.
