A better Nigeria requires citizens willing to help shape its future. If you registered to vote, applied for a transfer or requested a replacement of your Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), please take the necessary steps to collect it.

Do not wait until election day to start making arrangements. Check your designated collection centre and follow official guidance from INEC.

Democracy is not only about choosing leaders. It is also about taking responsibility for the future we share.

Let us participate peacefully, responsibly and with an informed mind.

The society we want is shaped by the choices we make every day.

It is shaped by how we treat people who disagree with us, how we respond when tensions rise, and whether we are willing to listen before passing judgment.

Across Africa, building peaceful societies requires more than wishing for peace. It requires citizens who refuse to turn differences into hostility, leaders who put people before personal interests, and communities willing to resolve disagreements without destroying relationships.

A better society begins when we recognise that we all have a part to play.

This week, may our words, decisions and actions bring us closer to the kind of society we hope to live in.

Campaigns end. Neighbours remain.

In a few months, Nigerians will vote. Before then, someone will deliberately try to make you angry. A voice note with no source. A video from another country, another year. A rumour about "those people".

The people who gain from that anger will not be living next door when it lands on a family. You will.

So build one small habit before 2027. Wait ten seconds before forwarding anything that tightens your chest. Check who made it. Ask who benefits if you believe it.

Support your candidate. Argue your point. Just do not let an election turn the person next door into an enemy. After the votes are counted, you will still share the same street.

A divided society does not always need louder voices. Sometimes, it needs someone willing to build a bridge.

Across Africa, our differences in faith, ethnicity, culture and opinion will always exist. The real test is what we choose to do with them. We can turn differences into walls, or into reasons to listen, understand and work together.

Real leadership is not only about speaking for your people. It is also about creating enough room for people who are different from you to be heard.

That is where peace begins.

Day six, and module one comes full circle.

Elder Mrs Justina Mike Ngwobia, Executive Director of the Justice, Peace & Reconciliation Movement, closed out this module with a session on how interreligious dialogue actually works in practice, not just as an idea, but as a framework fellows can carry into real communities, real tensions, real conversations that matter.

It felt fitting that the module, built on faith, history, and conflict, would end with a session on how to talk to one another across the lines that divide us.

But the day isn't over yet. After today's class, fellows sit for the exam that marks the end of module one, a chance to show just how much has sharpened in them over these six days.

Six days of hard questions. Now it's time to prove what stayed.

Day five, and the conversation shifted from history to foundations.

Rev. Fr. Dr Emmanuel Unamba, Director of the Interreligious Dialogue Office, Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, walked this year's fellows back to first principles, asking them to examine not just what different faiths believe, but how those beliefs are studied, compared, and understood without losing what makes each one distinct.

It's easy to talk about religions side by side. It's harder to do it with the kind of care that respects difference instead of flattening it. That's the space fellows sat in today, learning a discipline that demands humility as much as knowledge.

Five days in, and the fellowship keeps proving that peace work starts with getting the basics right.
