Dear Nigerians,
For a better future, let us look beyond tribe, religion, political party, “stomach infrastructure,” personal business interests, sentiments and short-term benefits.
2027 let us vote for candidates whose manifestos offer genuine hope, credible solutions and a clear vision for the future of Nigeria.
Let us ask the hard questions: What will they do about food insecurity? Climate change? Unemployment? Energy poverty? Waste? Flooding? Environmental degradation? Education? Healthcare? And the future of our children?

Our vote should be an investment in the Nigeria we want, not merely a reward for the politics we have known.

Vote for competence.
Vote for vision.
Vote for accountability.
Vote for sustainability.
Vote for Nigeria.

According to Dr Michael Terungwa; Green areas and wetlands are critical infrastructure. They protect our cities from flooding, recharge groundwater, regulate temperatures and provide essential ecosystem services. They must be preserved and protected.
We need to embrace nature-based solutions alongside engineered infrastructure.
In Abuja, we must urgently desilt and clean our drainage systems. Many manholes, culverts and side drains have not been properly cleaned since they were constructed.
Prevention is cheaper than disaster response. Protect nature. Clean our drains. Keep Abuja flowing.

We must move beyond talk shows to real actions on the ground.

Our Team Lead, Dr. Michael Terungwa David, represented GIFSEP at the Africa Climate Journalists Training in Kigali, Rwanda, organised by Power Shift Africa
The “village boy” took journalists through a session on “Climate Change, El Niño and Implications for Agriculture and Food Security.”
We must build the capacity of African journalists to tell Africa’s climate story, breaking down the science, using credible data and putting the human stories behind the numbers at the centre.
Africa’s food sovereignty is under pressure from climate change, unsustainable technologies and now El Niño.
We must protect our food systems and strengthen Africa’s capacity to tell its own story.

Thank you NTA for amplifying our voices. We must be intentional about turning Nigeria’s waste challenge into opportunities creating jobs, generating value and building resilient communities.
Grateful to Nigeria for supporting this important initiative.
Waste is not waste until we call it waste.
