We do not need to reinvent the wheel to address terrorism and its impact on communities.

There are already people, organisations, systems, and solutions doing important work. What we need is stronger collaboration, shared knowledge, and partnerships that build on what already works.

On this International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, we are reminded that protecting lives requires collective action. We must connect efforts, strengthen what exists, and work together to build safer communities where every person can live with dignity and hope.

At the 8th Nigeria Family Planning Conference in 2024, influential Nigerians helped define what family planning means for Nigeria’s future.

From Jemima Osunde reminding us that we cannot reduce maternal mortality without family planning, to Aproko Doctor highlighting why family planning matters, the message was clear: family planning is central to healthier families and a healthier Nigeria.

Now, the conversation moves forward.

The 9th Nigeria Family Planning Conference is your platform to present evidence, share innovations, exchange ideas, and shape national policy.

Submit your abstract. Join Nigeria’s leading advocates, practitioners, researchers, and champions. Help shape the future of family planning in Nigeria.

Every day, we advocate for child rights in one way or another.

Through our digital media activism, Mobile Cinema and Capacity Strengthening approaches, and our contribution to the ABCs of the Child Rights Act, we continue to reinforce one simple truth: all children are human beings, and every child deserves to be protected.

Today, on the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, we pause to remember the children across Nigeria and Africa whose lives were cut short by terrorism. They should have had the opportunity to grow, dream, learn, and shape the future.

We remember them. We honour their lives. And we remain committed to building a world where every child’s rights are upheld, so they can live, grow, and thrive in safety.

New Partnership Announcement!

On , Shades of Us and Collective Humanity Development Network (COHUMAN) are excited to announce that we are partnering to support internally displaced persons, particularly women and girls in IDP communities.

Together, we will work across storytelling, documentation, psychosocial support, dignity-centred community engagement, advocacy, capacity strengthening, and resource mobilisation.

We are excited about what we can achieve together and the opportunity to support work that centres the dignity, voices, and experiences of displaced communities.

Here is to a meaningful partnership and the work ahead!

Today is World Photography Day!

At Shades of Us, we use our Capacity Strengthening project to build the photography and storytelling capacities of young activists and advocates using the tools most accessible to them.

Through photography, we can tell powerful stories, document experiences, challenge how people see the world, and make issues that matter harder to ignore.

When young people have the skills to tell their own stories, they shape narratives, influence conversations, and create a visual record of the issues and communities they care about.

One picture can tell a story. Sometimes, that story can change the world.

Happy World Photography Day!

Nigeria and Mali illustrate the gravity of health challenges facing the continent. In Nigeria, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis are the leading causes of death. In Mali, malaria, diarrhea, and pneumonia top the list. However, some strides have been made to improve health services in these countries.
