AKSU ALUMNI REPORT OF THE 3RD NATIONAL CONGRESS HELD ON FRIDAY, 27TH FEBRUARY 2026
Fellow AKSU Alumni,
1.0 Introduction
The 3rd National Congress of the AKSU Alumni Association was successfully held on Friday, 27th February 2026, at the newly constructed Entrepreneurial & Alumni Secretariat. The Secretariat was generously donated by Amaecom Global Ltd and facilitated by the current administration under the leadership of Engr. Uwakmfon Michael.
The Congress recorded an impressive turnout, with delegates, financial members, and representatives from all recognized branches in attendance.
2.0 Opening Address by the National President
In his opening remarks, the National President underscored the importance of the Congress as a strategic platform for unity, idea exchange, and progressive engagement aimed at strengthening the Association.
He presented a comprehensive report of the administration’s achievements to date, highlighting the successful establishment of six active branches, namely:
Abuja Branch
Lagos Branch
Port Harcourt Branch
Uyo Senatorial Branch
Eket Senatorial Branch
Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Branch
He noted that all six branches have demonstrated consistent growth and active participation, signaling a promising future for the Association.
3.0 Branch Reports
Chairmen of the six branches were invited to present brief reports on their activities and progress. The reports reflected vibrant engagement, structured leadership, and sustained membership drive across the branches. The Congress expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of branch development nationwide.
4.0 Membership Dues Resolution
A proposal for the introduction of a ₦1,000 annual membership fee for all AKSU Alumni members was presented before the Congress. Following detailed deliberations, the proposal was unanimously adopted by members present.
5.0 Constitution of Committees and Appointments
The Congress approved the constitution of an 5 member Board of Trustees (BOT). The following officers were announced:
Mr. Bishop Edemumo Jnr – Chairman
Comrade Aloysius Mfon – Secretary
Additionally, a 13-member Constitutional Amendment Committee was inaugurated, comprising representatives from all branches. The leadership of the Committee is as follows:
Comrade Imo Sandy – Chairman
Awajimokpe Adasi – Secretary
Mr. John Bassey (National Ex Officio I) – Advisor
6.0 Acceptance Speech by BOT Chairman
In his acceptance speech, Bishop Edemumoh Jnr expressed profound appreciation to the Congress for the confidence reposed in him and other BOT members. He assured members of the Board’s commitment to fostering unity, resolving disputes amicably, and strengthening the institutional framework of the Association. He also emphasized the BOT’s readiness to support initiatives that will expand the Alumni’s contribution to the growth and development of the University.
7.0 Key Achievements of the Administration
In his closing remarks, the National President highlighted major milestones achieved within the administration’s first 100 days in office, including:
Acquisition of a new bus for the Association
Establishment of six functional branches nationwide
95% completion of the Entrepreneurial Centre
Hosting of an Entrepreneurial Summit
Award of student scholarships
He further announced that an Amnesty Programme, duly approved by the University Management, would soon commence.
The President also informed Congress that an emergency session would be convened upon completion of the constitutional review to deliberate on and adopt the amended constitution.
8.0 Conclusion
The 3rd National Congress was adjudged a success, marked by robust participation, progressive resolutions, and renewed commitment to advancing the ideals of the AKSU Alumni Association.
The Congress reaffirmed its collective resolve to promote unity, strengthen institutional structures, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and global standing of Akwa Ibom State University.
