Abuja Original Inhabitants Youths Empowerment Org AOIYEO has been an indigenous peoples’ association for over a decade before formally obtaining its registered status as a Non-Governmental Organization.

Ferocious and unrelenting drive for the emancipation and unification of Abuja Original Inhabitants, through the adoption of diverse feasible advocacy models, focused on rights protection, justice, unity, empowerment, development, and gender inclusiveness The transfer of Nigeria's capital city from Lagos to Abuja in 1992 was unfairly implemented; this has and is still affecting the original inhabit

ants of Abuja negatively, from inadequate, pending or/and no resettlement of the Natives, to an inconclusive governance structure that sidelines the Natives, and the deplorable deficit of compensation, empowerment, and development initiatives for the Natives. Abuja Original Inhabitants Youths Empowerment Organization (AOIYEO) is an initiative to lead the advocacy for justice, empowerment, and development for the indigenous people of Abuja, we have presented ourselves to serve, and have presented our people an umbrella that they can all come under to speak and act in unison. We have been behind some of the applaudable progress that Abuja Natives have made in their demand for justice, and have intervened in situations of conflict and protected the Natives’ interest in tables of negotiations, and our scholarships and other acts of charity has extended to each of the 858 indigenous communities of Abuja.

On Thursday 30th July 2026, the Abuja Original Inhabitants Youth Empowerment Organization (AOIYEO) successfully convened a Townhall Meeting at the Kuje Area Council Townhall, Abuja, under the theme "Indigenous Youth and Governance: Strengthening Community Voices."

The programme was implemented with funding support from the MacArthur Foundation through the Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) as part of the project aimed at strengthening the voices of indigenous communities in key governance processes within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The programme commenced with opening remarks by the Chief of Staff of AOIYEO, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq, he highlighted the importance of empowering indigenous youths to become active participants in governance and democratic processes. Participants were reminded that sustainable development can only be achieved when communities are given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to decisions that affect their lives.
