Day 1 of the By-Law Drafting and Domestication Meeting was successfully held in Lagos State, bringing together key stakeholders from Amuwo-Odofin and Ojo LGAs to strengthen protection systems for Child Domestic Workers.

The meeting was necessitated by the growing need for local communities and institutions to domesticate and implement child protection measures as provided in the Child Rights Act, Child Rights Law, and the Child Safeguarding Policy of Lagos State. While these laws and policies already exist, there remains a significant implementation gap at the community and local government levels, thereby making the development of localized by-laws and protection mechanisms necessary.

With participation from Local Government representatives and partners including the , , Cece Yara Children Foundation, and 3HF, discussions highlighted the need for practical, localized by-laws to better safeguard vulnerable children.

Participants gained a clear understanding of the purpose of the process and expressed commitment toward developing frameworks that can be implemented within their communities.

We look forward to the next phase, where stakeholders will actively engage in drafting and adopting these proposed by-laws

Devatop Centre for Africa Development held the first Mentorship Clinic in the Adosoba community of Lagos State.

The Mentorship Clinic is an extension of the guardians’ and child domestic workers (CDWs) sensitization activities. It is designed to equip CDWs with essential soft skills and strengthen their intellectual capacities through focused learning sessions that support their personal development.

During the session, the children learned about building self-confidence through knowledge and self-awareness. They also explored their values, strengths, and aspirations using a tree-colouring activity, which helped them reflect on their personal growth and future goals.

Throughout the clinic, the children participated in various psychosocial activities aimed at increasing their engagement, encouraging collaboration, and fostering positive interaction among participants in the Mentorship Clinic.

Behind closed doors, many of them face exploitation, abuse, and neglect, denied education, rest, and the chance to simply be children. This is a reality we cannot ignore.

If you see something, say something.

With the TALKAM Human Rights App, you can safely and anonymously report cases of child abuse and the maltreatment of child domestic workers. Your action could be the turning point in a child’s life.

Your voice matters more than you think.

Every report, every shared story, every action taken can protect someone from abuse, trafficking, or violence. The silence around these issues only gives them room to grow but together, we can change that.
