Day 1 of the By-Law Drafting and Domestication Meeting was successfully held in Lagos State, bringing together key stakeholders from Amuwo-Odofin and Ojo LGAs to strengthen protection systems for Child Domestic Workers.
The meeting was necessitated by the growing need for local communities and institutions to domesticate and implement child protection measures as provided in the Child Rights Act, Child Rights Law, and the Child Safeguarding Policy of Lagos State. While these laws and policies already exist, there remains a significant implementation gap at the community and local government levels, thereby making the development of localized by-laws and protection mechanisms necessary.
With participation from Local Government representatives and partners including the , , Cece Yara Children Foundation, and 3HF, discussions highlighted the need for practical, localized by-laws to better safeguard vulnerable children.
Participants gained a clear understanding of the purpose of the process and expressed commitment toward developing frameworks that can be implemented within their communities.
We look forward to the next phase, where stakeholders will actively engage in drafting and adopting these proposed by-laws
