Opportunity does not send a reminder before it shows up. It simply appears, and only the prepared can maximize it.

Last year at the NCLC, five outstanding participants didn’t just attend, they arrived ready. Ready in mind. Ready in skill. Ready in confidence. And when the moment came, they stood out.

Because of their preparation, each of them went home with a U-Lesson Tab, not by chance, not by luck, but by readiness.

Preparation gives you:
• Confidence when others are nervous
• Clarity when others are confused
• Boldness when others hesitate
• Results when others only hope

Opportunities favor those who have invested in themselves long before the spotlight turns on. The rewards may look sudden, but the work is never sudden.

To our five brilliant winners from last year,
1- Babalola Mercy (Best Spoken Word Artist)
2- Muhammad Lawan Bukar (Most Creative)
3- Peace Eli (Outstanding Female)
4- Hon. Ibrahim Umar (Outstanding Male)
5- Chinenye Gift (Most Active)
we celebrate you! Your discipline, commitment, and hunger to grow set you apart. Please tag them in the comments and let’s celebrate excellence once again!

To every young leader reading this:
Don’t wait for opportunity to start preparing.
Prepare now. Study more. Practice more. Improve daily. Sharpen your skills and Strengthen your character.

Because life does not reward wishful thinking.
Life rewards preparation.

Your moment will come.
Make sure you are ready when it does.

Looking back at the remarkable moments from last year’s Letter Writing Competition, we are reminded that leadership has no age limit, only courage, vision, and the willingness to act.

Our CALDEV Letter Writing winners did more than craft beautiful words; they voiced ideas, challenged norms, and proposed solutions to real societal issues. Through their pens, they demonstrated that young people are not too young to effect positive change. They proved that leadership begins with conviction and is strengthened by action.

As we reflect on their inspiring journeys, we encourage every young leader in our community to draw inspiration from their example. Keep learning. Keep building capacity. The future belongs to those who prepare for it today. Remember, it takes boldness to speak up, boldness to innovate, and boldness to lead effectively. And within you lies that boldness.

We also extend our profound appreciation to Hajiya Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, wife of the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, whose gracious presence at the NCLC Grand Finale last year added immense value and inspiration to the event. Her encouragement to the participants reinforced the belief that when young voices are amplified, nations grow stronger

At CALDEV, we remain committed to nurturing visionary, innovative, and value-driven young leaders who will shape communities, transform systems, and champion positive change across Africa and beyond.

To every young leader reading this: your ideas matter, your voice counts, and your leadership journey starts now.

Young Leaders in the CALDEV community...!

Dreamers, innovators, and change-makers. We hope you’re staying inspired and intentional as you navigate your leadership journey.

As you grow, remember that innovation, meaningful collaboration, and a relentless commitment to excellence are not optional, they are the core values that define true leaders. Think beyond the obvious, work well with others, and give your best in all that you do. This is how true impact is built.

Know this: we are cheering you on. We believe in your potential, we celebrate your progress, and we eagerly look forward to seeing you emerge as influential leaders who create positive change in their communities and beyond.

Also note, a major announcement is on the way, one that will amplify our impact even further.

Stay ready. Stay connected. Stay tuned.

As young people living in this digital age, reading books can sometimes feel difficult or even rare. With most information now shared online, and with the help of digital tools and artificial intelligence, we can already learn so much. However, there are certain experiences these tools cannot give us. This is why books still matter—they offer deeper experiences, inspire us, and stay with us long after we’ve finished reading.

I am currently reading "The Power of a Teenager: 50 Ways to Inspire Change" by Hon. Bamidele Salam. One thing that really captivates me about the book is how each chapter answers questions young people often ask, especially those interested in creating change in their communities. The book clearly explains why change is needed, why our voices matter, and how we can take action.
Every chapter is unique and engaging.

Even as a young changemaker who has already started creating impact through advocacy, this book still inspires me to do more. The knowledge shared is practical and easy to apply. I’m developing new ideas and learning from the real-life examples shared. The book is written with clear intention, making it understandable for every teenager. I truly believe that any teenager who reads this book will feel inspired to start creating change in their community. It shapes mindsets, encourages critical thinking, and ignites passion for change and sustainable development.

It’s no surprise that this book is written by someone who cares deeply about the future of our nation. Representative Bamidele Salam has consistently shown his passion for seeing the next generation lead today—not waiting for tomorrow—through his children leadership initiatives as the Founder of Children of Africa Leadership and Values Development Initiative- Caldev. Over the years, he has organized four editions of the National Children Leadership Conference, the largest gathering of children across Nigeria. The conference empowers children to become leaders and take action in their communities.

His trust in young people is not just something he talks about—I am proof of it. At ages 17 and 18, I was the youngest person to serve on the planning committee for two editions of the National Children’s Leadership Conference (2nd & 3rd edition). That experience was impactful and showed clearly that he believes in young people and their ability to lead.

He is a man of wisdom, rich in knowledge, and someone young people are eager to listen to. His words provide guidance, clarity, and remind us that shared knowledge is knowledge used well. One thing I appreciate about him is that he does not withhold knowledge—he is always willing to teach, share, and answer questions young people ask. His passion for youth development is evident and lasting.

To some, he is a teacher. To us, he is a mentor—a symbol of hope and proof that our leaders trust us to lead today. His trust in young people inspires us to keep going.

Your investment in us through knowledge sharing and skill development is truly laudable. Thank you for your commitment to the growth of young people through your book and initiatives. To a man who gives his all to see young people thrive—thank you.

CALDEV Get-Together

On Saturday, 13th of December, the CALDEV family - staff, volunteers, partners, and friends came together for a memorable end-of-year get-together filled with reflection, connection, and celebration.

It was a meaningful moment to review the programs delivered throughout the year, assess our impact, and share insights geared toward achieving even greater results in the year ahead. Beyond reflection, the gathering created space to relax, unwind, and strengthen the bonds that power our collective work.

Our Founder took a moment to sincerely appreciate every staff member, volunteer, partner, and friend of CALDEV for their dedication, collaboration, and invaluable contributions to the successes recorded this year.

The evening concluded on a high note, with laughter, dancing, and joyful celebration, reminding us that while impact drives our mission, community sustains it.

As we look forward to a new year of deeper impact and greater achievements, we wish everyone a beautiful and refreshing festive season. Here’s to doing more, together.
