The Itakpa-Ito Primary Health Care Centre is the beating heart of Okpokwu Council Ward in Obi LGA, Benue State

For hundreds of families in the four communitoes it serves, this clinic is the first and only line of defence. It is where expectant mothers receive their antenatal care, where fathers bring their sick children, where the elderly receive treatment, and where new life is welcomed into the world. It is the most important place for the people of Itakpa, Okpokwu, Echori, and Ijokwe communities.

Yet, when the sun goes down, the dedicated healthcare workers here are left completely handicapped.

Ask yourself: What happens when an emergency strikes at 12 am?

What happens when a pregnant woman arrives in deep labour in the dead of night, which is mostly the case? How do you save a life when you can barely see the patient in front of you?
No medical professional should have to fight to save a life in total darkness.

The Augustine Ike Foundation has a fierce passion to change this narrative. We believe that the people of these communities deserve a healthcare system that functions effectively at all hours.

Our goal is to equip this vital clinic with a reliable, 24/7 solar power supply so that darkness never stands in the way of survival.

The workers are ready to save lives. We just need to give them the light to do it.

How does a midwife deliver a baby at 2AM using only a phone torchlight?

This is the daily reality at Itakpa Primary Health Care Centre in Obi LGA, Benue State. Without electricity, saving lives in this community is a constant battle. Without electricity, medical service becomes tumultuous for healthcare workers and life threatening for the patients. Lifesaving vaccines risk getting spoilt.

Healthcare workers are doing their best, but they shouldn't have to battle illness and darkness at the same time.

The Augustine Ike Foundation is stepping in to change this narrative.

Our inaugural project is to fully install a 24/7 sustainable solar power system at the Itakpa facility. We believe that access to safe, reliable healthcare is a fundamental right that shouldn't stop when the sun goes down.

Follow our page today as we kick off our journey to empower lives in rural Nigeria beginning with Itakpa Primary Healthcare Centre. Let’s bring hope back to rural healthcare.

Augustine Ike Foundation is designed to empower Nigerians from the root with Solar Energy.

Nigerians are some of the best heads globally. So why is that not reflected in our economy. Why are we poor?

It is difficult to stay productive when basic Healthcare is not accessible.

Families live in fear whenever a woman is about to put to birth.
Children are born orphans.

Basic education is poor and can't afford electricity to power basic technologies in schools.

People can't access water that is not even drinkable just because they don't have the electricity to pump water.

Imagine a Nigeria where all Nigerians have access to basic and quality healthcare, quality education for our children and access to quality water. That is a wealthy society emerging.

The dynamics has changed. The future is here. Let us join hands together to build the society you want to see your children live in.

All from the beauty of the SUN 🌞.

The presence of power in the hospital is the foundation for quality health.

It regains the confidence of the people to approach a hospital when he or she doesn't feel well.

When power is present, advanced technologies that enhances Medicare can now come.

Vaccines, blood and other essentials can now be stored at regulated temperatures suitable for emergency and maternity care services.

The presence of power in a hospital means good health for the people of the communities it serves. They don't bury their youngs. Children are not born orphans. they're are happy.

We can harvest this power from the earth for as much as we need and can store to power all we need to power in our healthcare system.

A healthy people are happy and happy people are wealthy people.
Let us put hands together and empower Nigerians from the root.

Just as you get ready for bed tonight, I need you to remember that somewhere in Nigeria, another woman will go into labour in darkness with a 50/50 chance for survival.

Healthcare workers at Itakpa PHC depend on phone flashlights to carry out medical operations.

Some mothers will still face risks they should never face.

This mission is personal.

The Enikpa Project was born from pain. No woman deserve to give her life in an exchange for another. No child should be made orphan even before they take their first breathe.
But we pray it becomes a source of hope for many others.

For every woman lost during childbirth because systems failed her,
we will keep speaking.
We will keep building.
We will keep pushing.

Somewhere tonight in a rural community, a woman may go into labour in darkness because there is no electricity to power the infrastructures that power basic Healthcare.

A nurse holding a torchlight in the mouth while carrying out a critical medical operation, should never become part of maternal healthcare.

No woman should be made to stand a 50:50 chance of survival at the point of bringing forth another life.

No child deserve to be an orphan even before they take their first breathe just because just because of lack of required electricity.

This is one of the reasons the Augustine Ike Foundation was born.

We believe healthcare dignity should not depend on location.

We believe rural communities deserve functioning healthcare systems.

We believe electricity in a primary healthcare centre is not luxury — it is survival.

For our inaugural intervention, we are launching a solar electrification project for Itakpa Ito Primary Healthcare Centre, Obi Local Government Area, Benue State.

Project Cost: ₦3,567,500

This is not just a solar project.

This is about safer childbirth.
Safer emergency care.
Safer nights for healthcare workers.
And hope for communities too often forgotten.

Over the coming days, we will be sharing the reality on ground, the vision behind this mission, and how people can become part of the impact.

This is the beginning.
