2025 IDGC
The 2025 IDGC saw AHF in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, where we collaborated with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Education Ministry.
A joint call was made for supportive programmes and policies that would expand access to healthcare, including sexual and reproductive health services for adolescent girls and young women. The need for increased investment in the prevention, testing and treatment programs for HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) was also highlighted.
Our host was the Community Commercial Secondary School, Ikot Oku, Ubo, Offort, Uyo, where other students converged including out-of-school girls, including those with disability.
AHF Nigeria was joined by her CSO partners in Akwa Ibom state, including the Civil Society for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CISHAN), Center for Clinical Care and Clinical Research in Nigeria (CCCRN), Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), as well as the State AIDS and STIs Control Program (SACP).
Free sanitary pads, both (reusable and disposable) was shared to participants while a leadership and menstrual health expert gave a lecture to the girls on tips to manage their monthly cycle and on leadership and advocacy for what constitutes challenges to them.
The event was closed with a stretch of dancing as the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Inibehe Silas-Akpan led the girls to the dancing floor.
