IMPACT STORY #4: The story of Happiness Simon Udele.

Across the world, women entrepreneurs continue to break barriers, creating businesses, generating income, and shaping their own futures. Their journeys are powerful reminders that when opportunity meets determination, transformation happens.

This is the story of Happiness Simon Udele.

Through LEGASI’s Livelihood Support Program, Happiness was given more than just training, she was given a chance to learn, to grow, and to rebuild her confidence. With structured mentorship and hands on skill development, she has begun carving a path toward economic independence.

Today, Happiness owns her emerging brand, “Happy Feet,” a testament to her resilience and commitment to growth. While building her business, she continues to work at her trainer’s workshop, the same place where she acquired her skills through a LEGASI supported scholarship, gaining experience and strengthening her craft.

With the intervention materials provided by LEGASI, she is already taking practical steps toward financial stability and self reliance.

At LEGASI, we recognize a fundamental truth: peace cannot be built on an empty stomach. Our peacepreneurship approach integrates livelihood support into peacebuilding, restoring dignity, strengthening resilience, and enabling women to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

We remain committed to supporting Happiness on her journey until she achieves full independence and is able to operate her business from her own dedicated space.

Her story is a powerful reminder:
When women rise, communities rise.
Sometimes, a single opportunity can transform a life.

LEGASI Peacepreneurship is working.

We appreciate Peace Direct for believing in our vision and supporting us in turning impact into reality.

From Stability to Growth: Cheering on VSLA Dutse Kura

Not every impact story is rooted in crisis. Some reflect resilience, steady progress, and the power of financial independence.

The LEGASI Team recently conducted a follow-up visit to the VSLA Dutse Kura group in Plateau State, and we are pleased to see the group making strong strides. Members meet consistently each week, demonstrating commitment to collective savings and mutual support.

We are especially encouraged by their transition from saving to internal lending. By providing loans within the group, members are now able to invest in small businesses, strengthen household income, and build financial security.

This milestone highlights the role of community-led financial systems in driving economic empowerment. When people are equipped with the tools to manage their resources effectively, it contributes not only to improved livelihoods but also to social cohesion and long-term stability.

We commend the Dutse Kura group for their dedication and progress, and we remain committed to supporting initiatives that foster inclusive and sustainable development.

The Day Our Plan Exceeded Expectations in Miango

Last year, the LEGASI Team supported the establishment of a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) in Miango, Plateau State, built on a simple principle: with the right structure, communities can unlock their own strength and resilience.

Last week, we returned to Miango to monitor progress and provide a seed capital grant to further strengthen the group’s activities.

What we found was truly inspiring.

Within just five months and only five meeting cycles, the group had mobilized savings of over ₦500,000. Even more remarkable was how these funds were being actively utilized. Members had already begun accessing loans to expand their small businesses, increasing their incomes and supporting their households.

In recognition of their discipline, commitment, and strong financial management, LEGASI provided an additional grant of over ₦250,000 to boost their lending capacity and sustain their growth.

This experience reinforces an important lesson. In Plateau State, where competition over resources can sometimes fuel tensions, initiatives like VSLA demonstrate a different pathway. Economic cooperation and shared financial responsibility can strengthen trust, foster mutual support, and contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding.

When community members grow together financially, they also grow together socially. Shared progress builds stronger relationships and more resilient communities.

We commend the people of Miango for their dedication and collective effort. Their success is a powerful reminder that sustainable development is most effective when driven by the community itself.

Healing the Wounds of the Past to Build a Peaceful Future

In 2025, the Zike community experienced a devastating tragedy that resulted in a mass burial, leaving deep emotional and psychological scars that persist to this day.

The LEGASI Team recently returned to Zike, not only to remember, but to support the community on its path to recovery and resilience. During our visit, we facilitated intensive trauma counseling and psychosocial support sessions, providing survivors with safe spaces to express their grief, share their experiences, and begin the healing process.

We recognize that sustainable peacebuilding extends beyond dialogue and agreements. It requires addressing the invisible wounds carried by individuals and communities affected by conflict. By supporting the people of Zike to process their trauma and regain a sense of emotional stability, we are contributing to the foundation for lasting peace.

LEGASI remains committed to promoting sustainable peace in Plateau State, one healed heart at a time.

The LEGASI Team recently visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mangu, Plateau State, to provide relief materials and support to affected families.
While addressing immediate physical needs remains critical, we recognize that many of the deepest wounds carried by displaced communities are emotional and psychological. Since January, the camp has endured significant loss, with nearly 23 members of the community lost to the ongoing crisis.

As part of our visit, we created a safe and supportive space for individuals to share their experiences, express their grief, and begin the process of healing. Through guided conversations and psychosocial support activities, community members were encouraged to speak openly, reflect, and release the burdens they have been carrying.
The impact was profound. Many participants shared that they felt a sense of relief and emotional lightness, for the first time in months simply by being heard and supported.

At LEGASI, we remain committed to standing with the people of Plateau State. Healing is not a one-time intervention but a continuous journey, and we will continue to walk alongside these communities as they rebuild their lives with strength and dignity.

From zero to 250,000 in just five months!

Last year, we established a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) in Ganawuri in Plateau State. When our team visited them this week to provide seed capital, we were absolutely blown away.

In just five months, with only five meetings under their belt, this incredible group has saved a total of 250,000 in their account! They haven't just been saving; they have already started circulating this money back to members to boost their businesses and support their families.

To help them scale their impact, our organization provided an additional 250,000 in seed capital to strengthen their fund.

Building Peace, One Business at a Time
At LEGASI, we believe that sustainable peace starts with a full stomach and a stable income. When communities like Ganawuri are economically empowered, competition for resources decreases, families can plan for the future, and social cohesion is strengthened. By giving people the tools to lift themselves out of poverty, we are planting the seeds for a more peaceful and resilient community.

We are so proud of the Ganawuri VSLA group! The energy and dedication you showed during our visit was truly inspiring. Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey.
