Last week, our team at Glowingmindsinitiatives | Youth skills & Capacity building Initiatives attended the 2026 Gender Summit (GS26) Youth Conference, organized by the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) .

​Represented by our Executive Director, Shamsudeen Abdulrazak Gidado Shamsudeen Abdulrazak, and Admin Associate, K Khairah Lawal, we joined key actors and young leaders driving youth development across Nigeria.

​Centered around the theme "The Dream We Chose," the summit offered invaluable insights into current development strategies.

​We were also glad to contribute directly during the breakout sessions, participating in the Employability and Digital Inclusion thematic group. Worthy of note was how the session shifted focus—moving from what the government can do for youth development to what young people themselves can do to improve their own situations.

It was also another opportunity to connect with our partners at Altruistic & Humanitarian Aid Foundation

On 31st August, our team joined the Stakeholders' Engagement on Niger State's Digital Policy, Regulatory and Institutional Reforms (SPRIRET) at the Women Centre, Minna organised by the Initiative for Digital Inclusion (IDI), FCDO, and NSITDEA.

The state has made real progress on digital transformation but based on the baseline findings shared at the event, most of that progress is still concentrated in Minna, while rural communities risk being left behind entirely.

That's exactly the point we raised during the Digital Literacy and Skills Development breakout session: digital inclusion only means something if it reaches beyond the capital. We worked through structured assessments across all six SPRIRET focus areas — infrastructure, digital economy policy, civic tech, DPI/DPG advisory, connectivity reform, and digital literacy helping shape where this policy goes next, with grassroots communities in mind, not just Minna. It was also encouraging to see this engagement build on earlier work by Tech4Dev, rather than starting from scratch; real progress on digital policy needs this kind of harmonisation, not fragmented efforts working in isolation.

This is what our policy work looks like in practice not just training young people, but showing up in the rooms where the systems around them get built. Follow along as we keep pushing for inclusion that actually reacheseveryone.

"Youth engagement must be continuous."
That's not our line but what a young person said in the room.

At a recent policy dialogue session, young people weren't just invited to sit and listen; they were asked directly: what should happen next?

Their answers were honest, specific, and worth sharing exactly as they said them.

Too often, "youth engagement" means a one-day event, a group photo, and no real follow-through. The young people in that room noticed — and said so.

Leadership isn't a position someone hands you. It's not a title on a certificate or a name on an org chart. It's what you do before any of that — the decision to start, even when nobody's watching and nothing's guaranteed.

Most people wait for permission that never comes. The ones who move forward are usually just the ones who stopped waiting for it.
