The achievement of the IAPG objectives will lead to the:
• Increase of a research base and the strengthening of Geoethics from the scientific point of view;
• Identification of methods for its more effective application;
• Reflection on the role that geoscientists can have in society and the identification of suitable forms, positions, means actions to be adopted by them;

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Geoethics Working Group (GWG) of the European Geosciences Union (EGU):
https://www.geoethics.org/post/launching-the-egu-geoethics-working-group

Silvia Peppoloni will serve as Chair. The Working Group includes David Crookall, Giuseppe Di Capua, Jens Klump, and Ioanna Triantafyllou.

The EGU Geoethics Working Group is the result of over 15 years of work on geoethics at the EGU General Assemblies, through numerous events that have engaged hundreds of colleagues from around the world.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the EGU President, Prof. Peter van der Beek, and the EGU Executive Secretary, Dr.Philippe Courtial, for their strong support in this new endeavour and for the opportunity to further strengthen geoethics within the EGU community and the wider international geoscience community. We also thank the EGU Council for approving the proposal.

The EGU Geoethics Working Group will foster awareness, reflection, and action, advise the EGU Council on the ethical, social, and cultural dimensions of the geosciences, and promote responsible conduct among geoscientists in their research, professional practice, and interactions with society and the Earth system.

The EGU Geoethics Working Group is a new component of the International Geoethics Research Infrastructure (IGRI), which includes the International Association for Promoting Geoethics (IAPG), the Commission on Geoethics of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), the Chair on Geoethics of the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH), the School on Geoethics and Natural Issues, the Journal of Geoethics and Social Geosciences, and the SpringerBriefs in Geoethics series.
