2025 Children’s Day Celebration by Children Against Torture and Crime Foundation, CATACRIF, with children and students of Junior Secondary School, JSS, Kugbo Phase 1, Kugbo, AMAC, FCT
The school is located less than 10 kilometres from the gates of the A*o Rock Presidential Villa. It holds afternoon classes only for its student from 1:30-5.30pm every weekday while the morning sessions are for the primary section who were, as at time of this report, idle at home due to an industrial action by the teachers of Aria Council.
JSS Kugbo is a public private partnership awaiying takeover by Government. It caters for the indigent children from the local community who prior to the establishment of the school, had to take precarious routes on the highway to either attend schools at the Mogadishu Barracks or down to Nyanya/New Karu (some 2-3 km).
In the meantime, the school depends on the meagre school fees of N15,000 per term to cater for the staff and school needs. It has a staff strength of 14 led by the Principal, Mr. Gideon Adamu, while the students population is roughly 120.
Advocacy to School Principal and Teachers
CATACRIF's CEO, Mr. Michael E.N., and the organization's country director, Dr. Andrew Ukuwa were represented by the Volunteering Coordinator, Mr. Lawrence Wakdet to celebrate with the children.
The Principal, Mr. Gideon Adamu,
welcomed the NGO and was glad that there's a body that can think of reaching out to children in these hard times. He stated that all important people in the society today went through public schools, citing examples of Presidents Tinubu and Buhari, and many political figures, and that they were all encouraged in like manner.
The children equally welcomed the NGO, and went on to get involved in essay competition as well as other events organized by the NGO.
The children were bountifully rewarded. The winners of the competitions also went home with prizes and other gift items. The essay topics centred around:
Child Abuse
Child Labour
School Dropout
Career Talk and Guidance for JSS 3 students were also conducted by representatives of the NGO.
It was truly a day well spent. We had fun reaching out to lives. The smiles of these children and the songs of joy on their lips were all the payment we needed in return.
Thank you to our sponsors who made the time spent a reality.
