For years, the children of Nomadic Primary School in Apo Dutse showed up to learn with hope in their hearts but without the environment they truly deserved.

Primary 1 pupils, just beginning their educational journey, had no classroom to call their own.

They were squeezed into a shared space with Primary 2 students crowded, overstretched, and far from ideal for young minds that need attention, care, and room to grow.

Yet, they kept coming.

Because even in difficult conditions, their desire to learn never faded.

At BrainHouse Nigeria.Org, moments like this remind us why we exist.

We believe every child deserves more than just access to education they deserve dignity, structure, and a space that inspires them to dream.

We couldn’t look away. So we stepped in.

What was once a dilapidated, forgotten classroom is now a renewed space filled with possibility a safe, welcoming environment where young learners can sit, focus, and truly begin their journey.

Today, these children no longer have to struggle for space. They now have a classroom they can proudly call their own.

This transformation was made possible through the unwavering support of our implementing partner, Sa’ada Court-Mosque, and the generosity of Sadiq Ahmed Iliyasu, Habibb, and Koni Maryam Duniya.

Your kindness has created more than walls it has restored confidence, dignity, and hope.

Every child deserves a fair start—and a place to believe in their future.

Children are blessings and the legacy we must build upon.

We must create a society free from bullying and provide a safe, secure environment for them.

Nigeria currently has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world. This narrative must change.

Education is free up to junior secondary school in Nigeria—so why are so many children still out of school? We must address this crisis with urgency and collective action.

Rebuilding Nigeria’s Future Starts with UBEC: A Call to Prioritize Foundational Education

Nigeria’s education crisis is not a lack of ambition—it’s a misalignment of priorities.

While universities expand, 53% of Nigerian youth remain unemployed (NBS 2023), and only 17% of primary school pupils achieve minimum learning standards (UNICEF). Yet, the solution lies not in more degrees, but in transforming basic education through the existing Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

Why UBEC Must Be the Cornerstone

1. The Vietnam Lesson:
Vietnam’s economic leap was built on universal basic education, not just university degrees. By 2020, their focus on primary/secondary STEM and vocational training reduced poverty by 90%and attracted global manufacturers. UBEC could replicate this by:
- Mandating digital and technical skills (e.g., coding, solar tech) in primary/junior secondary curricula.
- Partnering with states to triple funding for teacher training and tools (like Lagos’s EdoBEST program).

2. The Mechanic vs. the Graduate:
A mechanic with IoT (Internet of Things) skills can earn ₦150,000–₦400,000 monthly diagnosing smart vehicles, while a humanities graduate waits years for a ₦50,000 entry-level job.

UBEC’s mandate should include:

- Vocational integration: Blend traditional subjects with apprenticeships (e.g., math + carpentry, physics + robotics).

- Micro-certifications: Offer pupils industry-recognized badges in tech/trades by JS3.

Three Steps to Empower UBEC

1. Increase Funding & Accountability:
- Raise UBEC’s budget allocation from 2% of education spending to 15%, tied to measurable outcomes (e.g., % of pupils achieving digital literacy by 2030).

- Audit UBEC’s state-level implementation—over ₦45 billion in matching grants went unaccessed by states in 2023 (UBEC report).

2. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs):

- Collaborate with tech hubs (e.g., Andela, AltSchool) to design curricula for AI, agritech, and renewable energy.

- Incentivize firms like Dangote, MTN to fund UBEC “skills labs” in exchange for tax breaks.

3. Community Mobilization:
- Launch a “No Child Left in the 20th Century” campaign, showcasing success stories (e.g., a 16-year-old in Kano repairing drones after UBEC robotics training).

Conclusion: Certificates Don’t Feed Nations—Skills Do
Nigeria’s education system must stop glorifying degrees and start rewarding competence.

By strengthening UBEC to deliver 21st-century foundational skills, we can create a generation of problem-solvers—not pension-chasers. The mechanic with a tablet earns more than the graduate with a CV because the world pays for value, not vacancies.

Graduate and Get a Job?
Rethinking Nigeria’s Educational Priorities‼️

With humility and gratitude for the government’s efforts in sustaining education, I believe it is time to re-evaluate the traditional purpose of a university degree in Nigeria.

Historically, higher education has been framed as a direct pathway to employment—a notion that may no longer align with our present realities or developmental needs.

Rather than emphasizing university degrees as an entitlement to jobs, I urge the government to prioritize basic education—primary and secondary schooling—as the foundation for meaningful economic growth.

A stronger focus on foundational literacy, numeracy, and vocational skills at these levels will equip Nigerians with adaptable competencies, foster innovation, and reduce dependency on scarce white-collar jobs.

While universities remain vital, their role must evolve alongside a system that prioritizes practical skills and entrepreneurial mindsets from the earliest stages of learning. Only then can education truly serve as an engine for sustainable development in Nigeria.

Yesterday, our organization was issued a two-year provisional temporary operational permit, having successfully scaled through the interview and evaluation of our office and activities.

We believe this permit will help us expand our reach to our target audience and set the path for us to meaningfully contribute to national development in the education sector.

Once again, we thank the Honorable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning for finding us worthy of this opportunity to work toward improving the educational sector in our own small way.
