One of the biggest misconceptions about blindness is the assumption that technology is “out of reach”

That's just a myth, as you can see on the second slide
The truth is, with technology like screen readers (that read out text on a screen), voice commands, gesture based navigation, etc
Many blind and low vision individuals are sending emails, browsing the Internet, using social media, working, learning, creating and connecting.

Remember, disability is not the limitation, barriers are!
We at LTHi remain advocates for technology that pushes down barriers.

Check next post for a video on how blind people use assistive tools to.operate their smartphones

“Ensuring that children with disabilities have very early and continuous access to high-quality inclusive education is the best way to ensure their future success.” — Robert Enlow

Since 2015, we at Let’s Talk Humanity Initiative- LTHi have used EDUCATION as the single most powerful tool in impacting the lives of Children With Disabilities in Nigeria.
We believe that access to QUALITY EDUCATION is a RIGHT and not a PRIVILEGE and a tool that can level the playing ground and multiply the possibilities and opportunities for Persons With Disabilities.

On this International Day of Education, we urge local and global institutions like , to prioritize Persons With Disabilities and include PWD youths in decision and design processes as regards education.

They deserve to be SEEN
They deserve to be HEARD
They deserve to be INCLUDED!

Our major thematic area as a nonprofit might not be CLIMATE ACTION but we cannot deny that climate change events is one of the biggest threats that Persons with Disabilities face.

In their daily lives and in climate disasters such as flooding, drought, etc Persons With Disabilities are usually at a higher risk than the rest of the population, yet there are no solid plans to cater to them before, during and after the disasters.

During a 2-day training organized by Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative AWWDI on Inclusive Climate Action, we were represented by our head of operations Sharon Chiahemen and we took back some lessons we would be applying to ensure that our organization Let’s Talk Humanity Initiative- LTHi and the work that we do is truly INCLUSIVE of PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES.

The bus made a last stop at the AZATHA community, where we once again created a safe space for the girls to learn and ask questions about Bodily Autonomy, s*x education, menstruation and personal hygiene.

The impact of the project cannot be quantified and in our subsequent post, we will be sharing feedback directly from our beneficiaries.
