Empowering Women for Food Security

It was another remarkable and fulfilling day at the Women Development Centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, as members of the SheGrowsHerFood Initiative successfully completed their training in mushroom farming.

On behalf of the Board Chairman, Dr. Isreal Esom, the National Coordinator, Princess Comfort Ifesinachi Nweke, and the State/LGA Coordinators, we warmly congratulate and celebrate all our members on their successful training and graduation. This achievement marks another important milestone in our collective commitment to empowering women and promoting sustainable food security.

The training programme, facilitated by Forward Africa in collaboration with New Foundation, aligns perfectly with the vision and mission of the SheGrowsHerFood Initiative, to empower women, strengthen agricultural capacity, and improve food security across communities. It also reaffirms our commitment to partnering with stakeholders and relevant agencies to create more opportunities for growth, innovation, and sustainable livelihoods.

As part of the graduation ceremony, the newly certified participants proudly showcased the mushroom products they cultivated during the training, demonstrating the practical knowledge and skills they acquired. Their achievements are a testament to the programme's impact and success.

At SheGrowsHerFood Initiative, our commitment goes beyond providing support with the resources available to us. We remain dedicated to identifying and creating new opportunities that empower women farmers, strengthen local agriculture, and contribute meaningfully to food security.

Congratulations once again to all our graduates. We wish you continued success as you put your newly acquired skills into practice and inspire others through your achievements.

SheGrowsHerFood Initiative
Empowering Women for Food Security

As the SheGrowsHerFood Initiative continues to empower women, men, and youth through agriculture to promote food security and economic stability, it remains firmly committed to its social responsibility, which is one of the organization's core values.

This commitment was once again demonstrated today when Mrs. Felicia Idor, a member of the Ladies of Honor Cooperative in Abakaliki LGA, received financial support for her petty business from the National Coordinator, Princess Comfort Ifesinachi Nweke.

Mrs. Idor had initially approached the Initiative to apply for a loan. However, after carefully assessing her situation and learning that she is solely responsible for supporting her family while caring for her sick husband, the National Coordinator recognized that a loan would place an additional burden on her. She therefore presented the case to the Board, which compassionately approved a financial grant instead of a loan to help strengthen her business.

Overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, Mrs. Idor expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Chairman of the Board, the National Coordinator, and the entire SheGrowsHerFood family for their kindness, compassion, and timely support.

This act of generosity reflects the Initiative's unwavering commitment to uplifting vulnerable individuals and creating lasting opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

Leading by Example

True leadership is not just about giving instructions, it's about getting your hands in the soil and showing others what is possible.

Today, our National Coordinator, Princess Comfort Ifesinachi Nweke, was at the SheGrowsHerFood Initiative Demonstration Farm at our Headquarters in Abakaliki, personally tending to the crops. This reflects the heart of our mission: inspiring action through practical example.

At SheGrowsHerFood Initiative, we believe that every home has the potential to become a source of fresh, healthy, and affordable food. Through home gardening, families can improve nutrition, reduce household food expenses, build resilience against food insecurity, and contribute to a healthier environment.

Our demonstration farm serves as a learning hub where women, young people, and communities acquire practical skills in sustainable food production that they can easily replicate in their homes and neighborhoods.

Every seed planted is a step toward: Food security Better family nutrition Women's economic empowerment Climate-smart agriculture Sustainable communities

We encourage everyone to start small. Whether it's a few vegetables in your backyard, containers, or a small garden space, every home garden matters. Together, we can grow healthier families, stronger communities, and a more food-secure nation.

Empowering Women for Food Security

Our Super Mum, Mrs. Chinedu Oga, continues to inspire by joyfully embracing the vision of the SheGrowsHerFood Initiative. Together with the National Coordinator, she proudly demonstrates that every woman can take a step toward food security by growing her own food.

Mrs. Oga is deeply passionate about agriculture and the mission of the SheGrowsHerFood Initiative. She makes the most of every available space around her home and school, cultivating nutritious food wherever she can.

Her commitment goes beyond her own garden. In partnership with the SheGrowsHerFood Initiative, she teaches her students how to grow their own food, believing that the best way to build a food-secure future is to catch them young and nurture a love for agriculture from an early age.

Mrs. Chinedu Oga is truly an outstanding role model and an inspiration to women everywhere. Her dedication reminds us that every small effort contributes to a healthier, more food-secure community.

What are you waiting for? Start growing your own food today and be part of the movement toward food security.
