WHEN HEALTHCARE REACHES THE COMMUNITY, LIVES ARE SAVED: SILF CONTINUES ITS 2-MONTH MALARIA OUTREACH IN FCT"
As part Of SILF ongoing 2-Month Malaria Community Outreach Intervention across communities in the Federal Capital Territory, Sim Impacting Lives Foundation (SILF), with the support of the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and the FCT Malaria Elimination Programme (FCTMEP), conducted a malaria outreach intervention on 13th June 2026 at Ungwan Hakimi, Orozo Community, Abuja.
For many families in underserved communities, access to timely malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment remains a challenge. Bringing these services directly to the community is often the difference between prolonged illness and timely recovery.
During the outreach, community members received malaria education, free testing, treatment services, and preventive care. Our engagement revealed the continued vulnerability of children to malaria, underscoring the urgent need for sustained investments in community-based health interventions that protect those most at risk.
Recognizing that malaria in pregnancy remains a major public health concern, eligible pregnant women were provided with Sulphadoxine-Pyrimethamine (SP) for malaria prevention, while pregnant women who were not attending Antenatal Care (ANC) services were identified and referred to health facilities to ensure they receive the care needed for safe pregnancies and healthy births.
This intervention reflects the power of collaboration in strengthening community health systems and ensuring that lifesaving services reach the people who need them most.

Strengthening Community Health Through Local Action: SILF Expands Malaria Response in Vulnerable Communities

Malaria remains one of the leading threats to the health and wellbeing of children, pregnant women, and vulnerable families across Nigeria. Yet, many communities continue to face barriers to accessing timely prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and health information.

As part of its ongoing 2-Month Malaria Community Outreach Intervention, Sim Impacting Lives Foundation (SILF) continues to bridge this gap through community-driven, people-centered health interventions designed to reach those most at risk.

On Thursday, SILF successfully trained volunteers and healthcare professionals in preparation for outreach activities in Kurudu and Orozo Communities of the Federal Capital Territory. The training focused on malaria prevention, diagnosis, treatment, advocacy, community sensitization, and awareness creation, strengthening local capacity to deliver effective malaria interventions at the grassroots level.

On Friday, June 12, 2026, the newly trained team was deployed to Kurudu Community, where they conducted advocacy engagements with community stakeholders, malaria prevention awareness campaigns, free malaria testing and treatment services, and the distribution of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (SP) to eligible pregnant women as part of efforts to reduce the burden of malaria in pregnancy.

The intervention reaffirmed an important reality: vulnerable communities continue to require sustained access to quality healthcare services, health education, and preventive interventions. By bringing these services directly to the community, SILF is helping to reduce barriers to care, improve health-seeking behavior, and protect families from the devastating effects of malaria.

This impact would not have been possible without the invaluable support of the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), the FCT Malaria Elimination Programme (FCTMEP), community leaders, and local stakeholders who continue to champion efforts toward a malaria-free Nigeria.
