On this day, 1st October 1960, Nigeria gained her independence.

Our 65 years of Independence signifies the freedom to govern ourselves, foster unity in diversity, and harness our rich cultural heritage for collective progress.

Let’s remember that true independence is not just political, but also economic and social—building a nation where every citizen thrives. Together, we continue to shape the future of Nigeria.

Did you know that 1 in 3 women in Nigeria have experienced some form of physical or sexual violence in their lifetime? And yet, many cases go unreported because silence has been normalized.

On Saturday, 30th August, Udama 4 Africa joined (DNF) and the Abuja Paralegals in Gwagwalada for a Street Bomb outreach, taking conversations on the streets, where change begins.

We spoke with everyday people, market women, bike riders, students, and fathers about:
-Harmful practices that limit women and girls
-The realities of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)
-Why peace and the rule of law must be everyone’s business

What we saw was clear: when communities understand the impact of silence, they begin to rise against it.

Every conversation we had on those streets is a step closer to a Nigeria where women and girls can live free from violence and fear.
